Last Thursday was the Chico’s Best Friends & Fashion Style Event…
THE STORY
…I was fortunate enough to co-host this fabulous event at a local Chico’s boutique; okay, local meaning about 45 minutes away since boutiques are few and far between in the backwoods of NW Pennsylvania.
I have to be honest with you, I had an excellent time! First of all, again due to my backwoodsy location, there isn’t exactly a plethora of opportunities to actually do any type of collaborating in real life. Surprising I know, but it’s not like the local Walmart is looking to work with fashion bloggers…although perhaps they should be in light of the pajama fashion show that goes on there on a daily basis.
But I digress…the ladies at Chico’s could not have been more welcoming and kind. Back in the day I worked in retail so I felt right at home, and watching them in action was amazing. They treat each and every customer like family, and they make sure that everyone who comes in the door receives personalized service. Add to that, that for the event there was a singer/guitarist providing some ambiance, a variety of teas from a local vendor as well as snacks and you’ve got the makings of a perfect evening. I mean who doesn’t love shopping for clothes that also involves brownies?
THE OUTFIT
How gorgeous are these pieces from Chico’s? When I was selecting what I would wear to the Best Friends & Fashion Style Event, I knew that I had to stay true to my nature; you all know that I’m a casual girl at heart so jeans were definitely on the list. These So Slimming Girlfriend Jeans in white were perfect. I have white jeans, but I’ve never been really happy with them. These are the perfect replacements. They are comfortable, fit perfectly and hit the thickness sweet stop; thick enough to not be see through yet lightweight enough to not be overwhelming in warmer weather.
The very first thing that caught my eye when I walked in the store was the white lace peasant top that I’m wearing. It was love at first sight. Somehow though my friends, I neglected to get a shot without the jacket on so that you can see the top in all it’s glory. No worries, it will definitely be showing up in future posts. It is delicate summery boho perfection so it will no doubt be in heavy rotation.
Finally, the jacket…ahhhh…what utter complete perfection. The embroidery, obviously, is was makes it so special. Embroidery is a huge trend at the moment, although I could care less. Trendy or not, this jacket is absolutely drool-worthy and there was no way that I was leaving without it once I had laid eyes on it. Although one might not think this jacket would be versatile because of the adornment, that my friends, is the very thing that is going to make it a workhorse in my wardrobe. Seriously…how cute will it be layered over a slip dress or floaty boho print skirt? It actually makes mixing prints easier. And it will play equally well with black skinnies or a pencil skirt I have no doubt.
THE TIP
Some people are hesitant to try a monochromatic outfit although I’m not really sure why that is. Perhaps the fear is that it will appear too “uniform”. If that’s the case then use different textures to break up the color. For example, the lace boho top I’m wearing here is an entirely different texture than the denim, thus making a visual “break” between the two white pieces. I did the same thing here although the primary color is cream as opposed to white. Also, throw in an accent color or two via your shoes, jewelry and/or outerwear. And don’t fret over the fact that you may think that all white will make you appear large. One color from head to toe, whether it be white, black, or something else visually elongates you.
