White Peasant Top & Boyfriend Jeans: The Social Event Of The Season

White peasant top, boyfriend jeans and white sandals.

I saw something Saturday that made my day. It was one of those things that when I saw it I was all at once fascinated, horrified and endlessly amused…

THE STORY

…Let me start with a disclaimer. If you’ve read the blog with any regularity then you know that I fully embrace my white trash/redneck heritage. I come from people who have fewer teeth than they do broken down cars in their front yard. I wear it like a badge of honor. I am living proof that a girl can extricate herself from the trailer park.

Said trailer park is right around the corner from where I currently live. I did say that you can extricate the girl from the trailer park, but I didn’t say that you can necessarily get her far away from it. Anyhow, from my front porch you can glimpse at an angle, the first trailer on the outer edge of the park. It’s the same trailer that a few years ago, I returned a lost two-year old to when I found him literally wandering in the middle of the street by my house…and they didn’t even know he was gone. Nor did they say thank you. Does that give you some insight?

Anyway, Saturday when I got home from running errands, I noticed there were more cars than usual parked in the yard (there are typically literally at least seven of them) and there was a large white tent going up. Of course I had to check it out. Then I noticed the tulle covered arch. And the rows of chairs. Is it starting to click in your brain yet? The beauty of all of this is, all of these items are set up right across the ditch from the busiest stretch of road in these parts. It sees a lot of traffic, complete with tire squawking and gravel throwing, as it’s the entrance to the trailer park. I’m thinking to myself, “Nahh…I have to be mistaken. They would have set that up in the backyard closer to the woods.” Nope. I was not mistaken. It was a freakin’ trailer park wedding right there on the street corner for all the world to enjoy. I kid you not friends. While I am by no means disrespecting the need for a budget friendly wedding, when you hold it on a street corner entrance to the trailer park, I’m thinking perhaps you weren’t looking to not draw attention to the spectacle.

But it gets better. Next, up went the yellow caution tape all around the outer perimeter. You know, so people wouldn’t mistakenly drive into the ditch while trying to park in the yard. There was also a valet of sorts, directing cars into the first row of the trailer park to find parking. And then came the pièce de résistance…the bouncy castle. Yes, there was a bouncy castle. Seriously, what trailer park wedding would be complete without a bouncy castle?

I spent my entire day periodically creeping on what in mind, has got to be the social event of the season around here. Once night fell, a bonfire appeared. As did the periodic drive-by of the local police because you know that police had to be involved. Fun times my friends, fun times.

THE OUTFIT

I first wore this white peasant top to the Chico’s style event that I co-hosted in March. Unfortunately, this one is sold out, but I’ve linked a few alternatives for you below. It was a little more dressed up paired with my white jeans and peep toe booties, which was really pretty, but today’s outfit is more me. For some reason, in my mind, this top was begging to be paired with some distressed denim. I think as usual, it was the juxtaposition of the pieces that appealed to me. The beautifully detailed lace trim and bell sleeves are super feminine while the shredded denim is all tomboy rebel. And that is my hands down all-time favorite way to pair opposing elements in an outfit.

Funny story about these jeans. Last week I met my son and daughter at one of the malls near Pittsburgh to finish up my daughter’s school shopping and fetch her from her week long stay with her brother. I was wearing my all time favorite boyfriend jeans, and on the drive there I was thinking about how I needed to find a suitable replacement because they are nearing the end of their life span. I’ve worn them so much the denim is actually getting thin. They were from GAP, but the problem is, they had changed the style so much over the years that the newer iterations of boyfriend jeans just didn’t fit the same.

Imagine my delight when I found that not only was there a GAP store in the mall, but the current style of boyfriend jeans is almost an exact dupe for the originals. The cut is just a hair slimmer, and the fly is button as opposed to zip, but otherwise they were identical. So yep, I scooped myself up a pair.

THE TIP

We all have a variety of facets to our personalities. Look for ways to express your different sides through your outfits. It’s a subtle and fun way to share who you are with the world.

Oh my gosh, I had to smile at your story. Small world but I grew up in the same environment! Think, goat was our lawn mower. Anyway, I am grateful for growing up that way because it taught me so much about people and life. Too cute story though! And you know I could have attended that wedding and fit right in! Your outfit is so darling! That top is beautiful! I am wearing my favorite boyfriend jeans on my blog today and I got them at the Gap about 3 years ago. Luckily I buy things in 2s and… Read more »

That top is stunning! I love a good white trash story 🙂 I didn’t grow up in that element but I’ve ended up in ghetto areas a few times as an adult, for better or worse. And I have to say, those have been way more interesting areas to live in than the fancy places 🙂 Fancy people stay hidden away behind curtains and tall hedges. The ghetto and trailer park people live their lives right out in front of you! Out on the stoop, in front of the bodega, etc. Humanity. Am I right??

Your story reminded me of when I was a kid and used to watch for hours as fairground rides and vehicles, and one time, “The World’s Largest Horse” struggled to park in the area opposite called “Jones’ Fairfields.” My mum still lives there but Jones has long gone and the fairfields became a housing development.

Love your peasant top. Your tip is bang on the money. I’ll be putting it into practice for next Monday’s post.

Love the story and since I’m familiar with where you live I can totally imagine it! Great entertainment and kudos to them for catering to their youngest guests with the bouncy castle!
This is a great outfit, nothing better than a white top with denim, so classic!

Your story telling skills are stellar! I could picture the whole thing – the trailer park, the busy road, the bouncy house and the yellow caution tape. You told the story so well you’ve got me wondering who the happy couple is. Another story, perhaps 😉

Love your tunic! Wish it weren’t sold out. It’s a beauty!

This top is banging (said whilst clapping hands – a quote from my daughter) I love it, and how well it goes with your jeans. I just can’t seem to let myself go and wear ripped jeans! I must try harder I think. x Jacqui

The trailer park sounds lively! I wonder what the bride and groom wore! We have a particular type of trailer trash in the UK (although we’re supposed to be all politically correct about it) and there’s a few sites near to where I live. It’s not unusual to see women in the local supermarket with full makeup, hair in rollers but wearing a dressing gown and slippers! I love your white blouse, it looks great with the jeans. I have a couple of pairs of Gap boyfriend jeans and they’re a slightly different fit and thickness. I went in to… Read more »
