Sooo…Wednesday was one of the best days ever! No, that is absolutely not hyperbole…
THE STORY
…Last week I mentioned my obsession with love of the weather and my crazed fan girl excitement over the fact our local news meteorologist was coming to visit my class. Well, Wednesday was the day and…I totally felt like this…
only for this guy…
Hey, don’t judge me. I’m lettin’ my freak flag fly.
First of all, I have to tell you what a genuine, down to earth, truly kind man he is. I wasn’t sure what to expect because I mean, c’mon, he’s on television. Every. Single. Weekday. But you wouldn’t know that when having a conversation with him. He’s just a really nice guy.
And what won him a forever fan? The way in which he interacted with my kids. They are truly beautiful souls and I love each and every one of them, but it’s not just anyone who can roll up in my room and really talk with them. Not at them, but with them; at their level of understanding, but yet not like they’re babies. And that he did. I think that perhaps he enjoyed them as much as they enjoyed him. Their favorite part was when he pulled up the actual data maps he uses to predict the weather on the big screen in our room, and then had them help him to predict the weather through Christmas Day. So cool!
Fan girl exuberance aside, what made it one of the best days ever? My kids. As much as they make me proud every day that I’m privileged to spend with them, I have never ever been prouder of them than I was Wednesday. They were so interested and fully engaged in everything he was saying. They asked fantastic questions, and when he asked them questions their answers were spot on. They even remembered things I taught them last year in Science. When he asked what December 21 is, one of my girls remembered it was Winter Solstice. Um, hello…Winter Solstice?! Ya, mama bear had a smile on her face.
THE OUTFIT
What does one wear when a local celebrity is coming to visit? Tulle, my friends, tulle. A burgundy tulle skirt to be exact. How delicious is this little confection I picked up recently? Actually, there’s an entire burgundy tulle skirt saga, but I’ll save that for another day since this is already a pretty lengthy post. I thought the floral sweater was perfect with it because the deeper shades in the print complemented the color of the skirt.
And the other standout piece in this outfit? The pearl ring as a pendant gifted to me by Homage by Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin. I decided to style it as a pendant because due to my elfin size (my wedding ring finger is a size 4 and 3/4!) it was too large on my fingers. And you know what? It looks gorgeous on a chain; I received so many compliments on it. I do wish it fit as a ring though; it is really beautiful and well made. The mix of pearl and CZ makes it really special.
THE TIP
Yes, you can wear tulle if you’re over the age of 25. Just make sure to ground it with the right top and shoes. Think chambray, a sweater, or a graphic tee and cardigan. As for shoes, I’d avoid ballet flats. You don’t want to look a retired extra from “Swan Lake”. Go with boots, pumps, or my personal favorite, Converse. Nothing says “unexpected” like Converse paired with tulle.
