I have quite a few really good post topics lined up that I haven’t gotten to yet…
THE STORY
…I could have chosen any one of them to go with today, but things have been so deep and dark around here lately I felt like some trivial brain candy was more the route I wanted to go.
Yesterday turned out to be my favorite day of the year. It’s never the same date from year to year, but it’s always a late Spring/early Summer day. It’s the day that we finally get everything in order in our backyard and patio. It’s a group effort between my husband, my daughter and I…and of course the fur babies think they’re helping too.
I’ll admit it, I’m a lazy gardener. Anything that is a permanent type of plant is wild looking and requires little maintenance; think irises, day lilies, hostas and vines. All of the bright pretty flowers are in the form of hanging baskets and annuals that I put in huge pots that I place in specific spots in my various flower beds.
The annual trip to our local greenhouse is always something I look forward to. We pick out whatever is bright beautiful and catches our eye, although pansies and portulacas are non-negotiable. Pansies simply make me happy, and I remember being fascinated with the bright beautiful colors of portulacas when my mom would plant them around our light post when I was a little girl.
On a side note, the greenhouse that we go to is breathtakingly beautiful. There are gardens and magical little spots all over the property. Even though the owners actually live on the property, they allow people to utilize it for photo shoots. Since it’s only a couple of miles from our house, I’m definitely going to be taking advantage of that little perk for the blog this Summer. Here’s a shot that I took yesterday while we were there; I’m pretty sure that fairies live here…isn’t it gorgeous?
Once we get them home, my daughter and I sit down outside and put together the big pots of flowers. She gets one that is only hers to do with what she likes, and then she helps me with the rest. By the time evening rolls around, the flowerbeds are all cleaned up, the new flowers are all planted, the outdoor lights are all replaced, the patio is in perfect order and all is right with my world. All Summer long I love nothing more than sitting outside in the evening just soaking in all of the beauty with the tree frogs chirping in the background…
THE OUTFIT
I have had these camo skinnies for literally years. I picked them up at Target many moons ago and they’ve only gotten better with age. They are actually skinny cargo pants, remember when those were a thing? They’re perfect paired with sneakers or flats, but I love how they look cuffed with my favorite nude block heel sandals.
The tee is a recent score from Aerie. It’s one of their Real Soft Tees and it totally lives up to the name. I sized up because I like a little extra room, but my regular size would have worked as well. It’s perfectly soft and drapes just right and it’s lightweight enough to wear all Summer long. The tees are currently on sale for under $15 and I highly recommend snagging a few for yourself. I actually picked it up in 6 different colors myself. The perfect tee is one of those basics that we all need, and when I find a good one I always stock up.
THE TIP
It’s always a good idea to stock up on basics…especially when you find a style that you love. I’m picky when it comes to tee shirts, so when I find the perfect tee I make sure to get it in standard colors like black and white, but if I really love it, I’ll grab it in other fun hues like the rose gold tee I’m wearing today.
