Okay, I’ve sat here for just about an hour now watching the blinking cursor while it mocks me and I gotta throw in the towel…
THE STORY
…Yes, my cursor mocks me. At least that’s my interpretation of it’s obstinate refusal to eloquently put words to the screen like I want it to. Tonight the cursor wins the battle. It’s one of those days when I have so many stories to tell, yet I have nothing to say. It’s not writer’s block per se, it’s just that none of the topics I have in back up particularly interest me at the moment. Nor has anything amusing or unusually interesting occurred this week.
Don’t get me wrong, it hasn’t been a bad week at all. I’ve actually had a good week; there was just not much by way of story material going on. Oh, there was one thing…nothing earth shattering, just one of those subtle nudges the universe gives you to live in the moment.
About three blocks from my house there’s a stop sign and right next to the stop sign is a mowed down field in front of an old industrial building. Last week one day I noticed this sweet little doe standing there about thirty feet back from the stop sign grazing. She was adorable with her sweet face and big ears. Her spots are gone, but she’s not much bigger than a medium sized dog. We made eye contact for a bit and then she went back to her snack.
Since then I’ve seen her every day. In the same spot. Grazing near the stop sign. It’s become a routine…so much so that when she wasn’t there this afternoon on my way home from work I worried a little. But when we went out for dinner she was there so all was well.
There’s not a lot of traffic around here, so now I’ve made a habit of sitting there for a minute watching her. Sometimes she watches me back. Other times she looks up, acknowledges my presence and carries on with her deer activities. I’ve even named her…Baby Deer. I know, not exactly original, but it suits her.
Only one time she had a friend with her. I actually worry a little that she’s lonely, and that’s part of the reason I sit for a few moments with her every day. Of course I realize she’s a wild deer that lives her wild deer life out in the woods doing wild deer things and she doesn’t exactly need friends. But still…she’s little and vulnerable and alone. Even though she really in all likelihood is not the least bit interested in me or being my little deer friend, I still enjoy watching her. It’s just a sweet simple reminder that there’s beauty everywhere if we just keep our eyes open and slow down for a few minutes to take it in and enjoy it.
THE OUTFIT
There’s just something that I love about a chiffon skirt; the floaty prettiness just gets me every time. I have this same skirt in pink, a similar one in a peachy nude shade, and let’s not forget about the mauve beauty with a flirty handkerchief hem and my high low floral print chiffon skirt.
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I spent a good part of my early childhood years tromping through the woods in my grandmother’s beautiful chiffon and tulle periwinkle blue party dress that she gave me to play dress up in…I guess I’ve always loved the dichotomy between tomboy and fairy princess style even when I was a little girl. Who else do you know that climbed trees in a chiffon party dress?
I first got this chiffon skirt in pink last winter. When I saw it in this gorgeous sienna shade (it’s listed as brown) I had to have it. The warm cozy color just screamed “fall” and I knew that I would wear it a lot during the upcoming months. Since it wasn’t quite cold enough for boots the day that I wore this look, I defaulted to my trusty adidas sneakers, but both ankle boots and knee high boots are going to look just as good with it once it cools off.
I also love a good cozy waffle knit top. I have several in different styles, but I really loved the puffy sleeve detail and off the shoulder option of this one. Waffle knit is just so cozy and soft to wear during the cooler months. The neutral taupe color also mixes well with so many other things in my closet. The nice thing about this particular top is that it can be dressed up with a skirt, but yet it’s also perfect for lounging around the house with a pair of sweats.
THE TIP
A chiffon skirt is an easy way to add some soft femininity to your wardrobe. A chiffon skirt is kind of like a tulle skirt’s quieter more subtle younger sister. I prefer a skirt with an elastic waist as opposed to a zipper because that gives you the option of wearing it higher or lower on the waist, whichever is your preference.
