Distressed Hem Jeans & Duster: Black & White

Distressed cuff jeans, plaid duster & white ankle boots.

If someone asked you how you view the world, what would you say…

THE STORY

…The other day some friends and I were talking about a particularly irksome situation in our world, and I said that in certain instances I have a very black and white perspective about things. Not all of the time mind you; more often than not I view situations and the world in general in full color. There is an entire spectrum of possibilities. The real beauty of life is found in the variety. There is so much to be learned, appreciated and enjoyed in those differences.

However, if a situation arises that is very obviously right or wrong, good or evil…black or white, I simply cannot see it any other way. There are two sides. No more. No less. It could be said that this a narrow minded way in which to view things. It could also be said that what I feel is “black” another most likely feels is “white”. While this may be true, you and I both know, that scenarios do exist where the sides are cut and dried. Black is black and white is white. When a scenario such as that arises, I simply cannot go down without a fight.

And do you know what? I happen to like that about myself. It means that I will stand up for what truly matters to me. It means that if I care about you I will fight to the death for you. It means that I care deeply about the things that I believe are important. It means that I stay true to who I am.

While there is so much to be learned about the world when we see it in full color, I think that much of our self discovery happens in black and white. The situations that we’ll fight for, the situations that we will stand up for…that’s where you’ll find the nitty gritty of your soul.

THE OUTFIT

Awhile back my beautiful friend and sister-blogger, Sheela from SheelaGoh.com decided that it was high time for another collaboration. The last time we worked together, Sheela and I along with the lovely Jennie from A Pocketful Of Polka Dots put our own personal sartorial spins on the exact same paisley velvet suit that we all happened to own.

That time we all knew the exact pieces that we would be styling, albeit the “how” was not discussed beforehand. This time Sheela and I decided to put our own individual stamp on styling denim for work. That was it…”styling denim for work”. We had no further discussion in regard to what pieces we would be wearing. Hell, the denim could’ve been anything; a vest, a skirt, a jacket or jeans.

Lo and behold…look at what happened. Skinny jeans, plaid duster, white button down, ankle boots…spooky similar, right down to our loose hanging black neck tie and red lip. What are the freakin’ odds of that I ask you? We, for reals, did not consult one another at all. At. All. And yet here we both are in our finest business rock star casual attire. Sheela is quite literally my style soul sister…spirit animal…yin to my yang. If you don’t already know Sheela, find her at SheelaGoh.com or her drool-worthy Instagram…trust me, you’ll have no choice but to follow her.

THE TIP

Get creative and think outside of the box to make an outfit unique. I wanted to add something extra at the neckline in addition to my necklaces. None of my scarves quite gave me the look I was after and then I remembered…stashed in my sewing box was the too long belt/wrap thingy that I had cut off of my velvet skirt…voila! Cool rocker girl nonchalant neck tie.

Style soul sisters…I love it!! And I just have to point out and give love to those white boots!! I swear they go with everything.
As for your black and white….you always bring up such great points. I think my husband is more like you. I tend to try to see all sides when something I shouldn’t. Just call me devil’s advocate…LOL
