This past weekend was definitely a big one…
THE STORY
…For the first time in almost thirty years I parted ways with my red hair color. Wait, what?? I know, shocking since my hair color is kinda my thang. For whatever reason I got a bug in my brain a few weeks back and decided I needed to change it up in kind of a big way. It involved lots of bleach and assorted candy colors…and now I have magical unicorn hair! For now, you can check it out on my Instagram.
Back in September I mentioned that my son and his fiance had visited the closest thing to a real-life apocalyptic place; the abandoned PA turnpike. I also mentioned that in light of my love of all things apocalypse, not taking me there would not be an option. If you happened to have seen my Instagram stories this weekend, then you know my wish came true! We all made the drive on Saturday and my friends, it was well worth the trip. It was all at once eerie, gritty, surreal and beautiful. I’ll be sharing all the snaps and more about it later this week.
For now though, here’s a roundup of randomness that caught my eye on the internet recently:
- This story about the therapy dogs for the Parkland shooting survivors is a beautiful thing. They have been working hard at the school since the tragedy over a year ago. The sweet little bundles of fur and love got their very own page in the yearbook and you need to check it out. It will simultaneously bring a lump to your throat and a smile to your face. And can we take a moment to acknowledge how tragic it is that we now live in a world where it’s necessary for therapy dogs to have their own page in a high school yearbook…
- I always say that you can find anything on Amazon. Well, this story proves it…you can actually purchase your very own tiny house on Amazon…I kid you not. And some of them are pretty damn nice too, believe it or not!
- This list of 26 dumb things that nearly everyone has done? Yep, I’ve done (or do) like 99% of them. Seriously though, I know that there’s a demon watching me when I’m washing my hair…
- I am always on the lookout for stories that prove that there are still good humans in the world. This story involving an elderly woman and students from a high school near her home is that story for this week. Watch the video too…it’s truly a touching story.
THE OUTFIT
This super cute boho style embroidered sundress gifted to me by Caite & Kyla is another great pick from their Spring/Summer ’19 collection. I already shared the shorter printed sundress as well as this longer handkerchief hem dress; all three will be absolutely perfect this summer once it heats up outside. Like all of my Caite & Kyla pieces, this sundress is beautifully made. The fabric is flowy yet substantial, the length is just right on my elfin-sized frame (it’s actually more of a midi dress, but works as a maxi for me) and the beautiful embroidery is the perfect finishing touch.
As usual, my Freebird ankle boots are the easy choice for a boho outfit whether it be jeans, a skirt or a sundress like this one. I have this style of boot in distressed black as well. Freebirds are definitely a bit out of my comfort zone in regard to price, but here’s the thing…I’ve found that there truly is a huge difference in the quality of inexpensive booties as compared to my Freebirds. My cowboy boots are also of a better quality and I’ve found the Freebirds to be similar in that the more I wear them the more they mold to my feet and become even more comfortable. Also, as I’ve broken them in the distressed finish just looks better and better.
Since this look was from an early spring day the temperatures still weren’t in the sweltering range. That means some layering was in order. It wasn’t sweltering, however it was fairly warm so I kept the layering right with a plain white tee shirt. In the fall/winter, the simple addition of leggings and a chunky cardigan will easily make the dress cold weather appropriate.
THE TIP
Some pieces are definitely worth spending more money on and I think that boots or shoes that you will wear often are definitely worth it. The comfort and quality simply cannot be matched by inexpensive brands. **If you buy your Freebird boots from the Freebird website, they offer AfterPay. AfterPay allows you to receive your purchase now, but pay for it in 4 automatic interest free payments.
