I kid you not, if Attention Deficit Disorder had been a thing when I was a kid I would have been the poster child…
THE STORY
…Raise your hand if you’re with me on this…About an hour ago I was sitting here contemplating what I wanted to write about and boom~my brain says, “Hey! Let’s google the exact color number for Harley Davidson orange so that we can use it on the flier for the parts sale at dad’s shop!” Okay I say, let’s do that! So…ten open tabs and a Picmonkey template later I’ve totally created the flier while leaving the blog post sitting in the dust. I swear the dog in the movie Up is my spirit animal…
I have at least ten “squirrel moments” a day! At work, at home, when I’m shopping; it can happen at any time. I’ll be in the middle of one thing when my brain suddenly switches gears and I’m uncontrollably compelled to wander off and start, well, whatever it was that my brain deemed more intriguing at the moment. There’s no rhyme nor reason to it either. One thing is not necessarily related to the other. Tonight’s squirrel moment is a case in point. While it’s true both the blog post and flier had to be created on the computer that is literally the only commonality. My brain was just all like, “Nah…let’s do this instead. Right. This. Second.” And really, who am I to argue…with myself? I’m pretty sure this also explains why I currently have three rooms in my house that are in various stages of repainting/redecorating…
Speaking of squirrel moments, maybe that’s why I love squirrels so much…omg, there I go again switching topics from my A.D.D. to squirrels. I so did not do that on purpose…lol! At least the topics were somewhat related this time. Anyhow, point is while my inability to focus on one thing for more than a millisecond might be occasionally frustrating it certainly does keep me amused. I can honestly say that I’m rarely bored because there is always a plethora of activities happening right there inside my own head. How about you? Are you laser focused or more of a squirrel girl?
THE OUTFIT
When Eva Trends contacted me in regard to collaborating with them I knew right away that there were some floaty silk dresses about to find a permanent home in my closet! This rose hem silk maxi dress is the first that I’m sharing with you, and I love it as much as I thought that I would.
The beauty of silk in my opinion, is in how it lays. A straight and shapeless dress like this one could lend a boxy vibe (I’m talking to you my sisters in bustiness) or simply be too overwhelming especially on someone petite like I am. But when the dress is constructed of lightweight floaty silk it falls over the curves without being clingy. That’s not to say a belt wouldn’t be a nice addition to the dress. I actually had a belt on most of the day at work, but decided that I didn’t like that particular belt with the dress so I took it off halfway through the day. I think a medium to thicker red belt would be absolutely perfect with this.
The other thing that I love about silk is that it works all year ’round. This dress is perfect for Summer…it’s virtually weightless. Then how is one to wear it in the Fall/Winter without risking frostbite on your girly bits you might be thinking? Something this lightweight makes the absolute perfect layering piece. Layers without the bulk are my kind of layers. Picture this (at least until I actually do it and then share the pictures with you)…skinny black jeans, black turtleneck or thermal, black boots with this dress over top and finished with either a black moto jacket or my to die for vintage 1940’s red wool coat…ya, that’s what I’m talkin’ about.
For today though, I simply layered a black duster cardigan over top and sported the ever popular red ankle boots. I ain’t gonna lie…I actually should have thrown some leggings underneath because it was a tad breezier than I had realized when I left the house.
Be on the lookout because over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing two more Eva Trends pieces; another silk floral print dress and a plaid tunic/shirt that’s giving off all the Fall vibes (the plaid shirt made an appearance on my Instagram the other day…check it out). Until then, you can receive 10% off your entire order by entering FF10 at checkout so enjoy!
THE TIP
Don’t pack away all of your lighter weight pieces for the Winter. They make some of the best layering pieces with all of the chunky knits and velvets of Fall/Winter.
