Those of you who are bloggers will know what I’m talking about here…don’t you just love it when you get that one sweet shot? When in some serendipitous twist of fate you’re wearing just the right outfit, nature is cooperating, the pose doesn’t look anything like your cheesy glamour shots from the 80’s and then the wind blows…
THE STORY
…But not the kind of wind that blows your dress up around your waist like it may or may not have done when you walked out the door after work. No, I’m talking the kind of wind that makes you look like Giselle shooting the Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover. Okay, serious overstatement there, but you know what I’m sayin’. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, man, you’re in the sweet spot.
Few things are more awkward then taking photos of yourself. In public. But as fashion bloggers, that’s what we do. I’ve been blogging for a little over three years now and it’s only in the last year that I’ve ventured out in the world to do my shots. Sometimes there are people in the vicinity. Sometimes they stare. Sometimes they creep you out. Sometimes you get the opportunity for a chance meeting like I had with this elderly gentleman in the park that adds a little something to your world that you would’ve missed out on otherwise. But no matter what the situation, nine times out of ten you feel awkward.
Today though, the planets were aligned in my favor. I had the outfit, Mother Nature was looking gorgeous in all of her Fall glory, the wind was blowing in the right direction and somehow, someway, there were zero human beings around. Fashion blogger nirvana.
THE OUTFIT
This blue floral print boho dress is one of my favorites. So much so that I also have it in gray. It’s perfect on it’s own, but is equally pretty layered over a skirt extender or leggings. The pointelle vest from JCPenney is the sleeveless version of last year’s pointelle sweater that I styled here with jeans, but must have worn a zillion times with everything from dresses to joggers. Both the vest and sweater are items I have in several colors; I feel like I say this constantly, but if you love something buy multiples! I’m loving the vest version; it’s perfect for this time of the year when you need an additional layer for warmth, but something heavier would be too much. It’s also perfect with dresses like this one with a lot of sleeve going on. It’s a virtual impossibility to layer a sweater over floofy (yes, floofy) sleeves so a vest is exactly what you need.
The cognac over the knee boots were picked up from ASOS on clearance this summer. I got them in black as well and both pairs were under $60 total; not a bad deal for over the knee boots, right? The rich brown paired nicely with the navy blue and picked up the browns in the floral print of the dress. The boots along with the vest gave me just enough coverage with the cooler temperatures without being overwhelmingly warm.
THE TIP
When you think sweater vest don’t think nerd with a pocket protector; think perfect layering piece over floofy sleeved tops and dresses. Especially when the vest is duster length; it adds a pretty dose of visual interest along with a touch of boho.
