I have a few topics for blog posts on deck, however since it’s been awhile I thought I’d share some random tidbits from around the Internet that I’ve enjoyed recently…
THE STORY
…I enjoy doing my Roundup of Randomness posts because I think it’s good for all of us to, every once in awhile, just take a moment to appreciate the little things. Whether it be some funny memes, a mindless but relatable list of nonsense, an interesting discovery or a touching human interest story it does us good to get out of our own headspace for a minute or two.
- I saw these photoshopped images by Dutch artist Ard Gelinch the other day and thought they were the coolest thing. He photoshops images of celebrities next to their younger selves and it’s nothing short genius. Be sure to check out his Instagram too because there are many more images there. I particularly love the image of Sir Anthony Hopkins…dang, was he a hottie back in the day!
- Adorable has never been an adjective that I associated with sharks, but this new species of tiny shark that actually glows in the dark changed my mind. Scientists recently found the cute little guy in the Gulf Of Mexico.
- Typically I post at least one dog related list/article, but I neglect to include our feline friends. This list showing 17 cats that are unapologectically rude cracked me up. I particularly enjoyed #3 and #16.
- And because we sometimes need a reminder that there is still good in the world, this article about a young woman who tracked down the man who showed her kindness as a child refugee will do just that. Yes, social media has it’s negatives, but this shows just how good it can be.
- And finally, I can so relate to almost every single thing on this list that proves we all basically had the exact same childhood. #17 made me laugh out loud…I remember always being on the lookout for quicksand when I was a kid.
THE OUTFIT
I wore this floral print maxi skirt, tank top and my pink Birkenstocks a few weeks back for a day of errand running and grocery gettin’. Some of you might be thinking that this is a bit extra for Walmart, but since I don’t work in the summer I like to put in at least a modicum of effort when I actually do leave the house during those lazy months.
The floral print maxi skirt was a find on the clearance rack at H&M a few years ago; I think it cost me all of $7. Since it’s obviously not still available I’ve included a few similar options for you below.
Today I paired it with a pink tank top from H&M’s basics collection and a high neck lace bralette. This particular bralette is no longer available, but this one is definitely a beautiful alternative.
In the past I’ve styled the skirt with a graphic tee and in the winter with a sweater and ankle boots. I really like that it buttons the entire way up the front making it easy to choose how much or how little leg to show.
THE TIP
Don’t forget that many items in your closet can be seasonless, the easiest being skirts and sundresses. With just a few minor tweaks, you can take a summery skirt and style it clear through the dark snowy months of winter. Simply add a sweater, boots and tights or leggings and you’re good to go.
