Floral Sundress & Kimono: Running Behind

Black floral sundress, kimono and sandals.

I’m not going to lie to you friends, I am running way behind on all things blog related including this post…

THE STORY

…This post should have published at 1:00 a.m., but here it is 8:00 in the morning and I’m scrambling to fit this in before I have to leave to take care of some legal business at the notary’s office. As I mentioned a few weeks back, adulting is hard work. Not just the emotional stuff but the actual work. I realize that I’m not telling you anything that you don’t already know because after all, you’re all adults too. Sometimes though life throws some extra crap at ya and you’ve just gotta roll with the punches. I’m not offering excuses, simply an explanation.

While the majority of the ugliness I mentioned in regard to my dad’s death has been worked through, now the actual time consuming difficult work has begun. Any of you in the crowd who have ever dealt with administering a will know exactly what I’m talking about. There are so many phone calls, so much running around, and a plethora of legal hoops to jump through. I swear that I’ve been to our county courthouse more in the last few weeks than I’ve ever been in my entire life. While it is a truly beautiful building, I can think of about 100 other places I’d rather be.

Typically in the Summer I have all the time in the world to devote to the blog; I post more, respond to most all of the comments and spend hours perusing my friends’ blogs. That’s not the case this year. I’ve been simply getting done what I can get done because as we all know, real life always comes first and the blog gets what is left over. I apologize and hope that you’ll all bear with me.

And of course months from now when this is all a distant memory, I will share the general process of will administration with you guys because it’s something that most of us know absolutely nothing about, but unfortunately might have to deal with. Believe me, it’s kind of like being totally lost in a foreign country without a road map. My bestie is a few months ahead of me in the process and has provided me with invaluable information and support so I haven’t felt quite as lost. That’s why when it’s all said and done I’ll share my knowledge with you in the hopes it’s helps at least one person find their way through unfamiliar and scary terrain.

THE OUTFIT

When Kellyann chose “How To Beat The Heat” as our July Ageless Style Link Up theme I was definitely on board. In the past, my go to has always been denim shorts. While I do still wear them a lot, I have find that sundress and loose flowy skirts actually are a much breezier alternative, especially once the scorching heat of July hits.

Not surprisingly I suppose, I have quite a collection of sundresses. I wear them all year long and simply add layers once the weather cools off. In the Summer though, I keep things simple and just add pretty accessories and sandals like I did here, here and here. The floral print dress that I’m wearing today I recently happened upon at JCPenney’s. I love the dark moodiness of it; the floral print really pops on the black background.

Since air conditioning can be an issue, I always have a top layer with me because I tend to get chilly easily. The simplest way to add a top layer to a sundress or other other Summer outfit is my old friend the kimono. Since the floral print dress I’m wearing today has burgundy and pink in the floral print, I went with my pink lace kimono. It was the perfect cover up while I was inside having coffee with my posse.

THE TIP

One of the easiest ways to stay cool in the Summer while still looking like you made an effort is a sundress. The nice thing about dresses are that they require minimal work…just throw it on and go.

Absolutely gorgeous, Debbie! You really do suit sun dresses and I love the hint of pink lace in the bra beneath it.

It will come as no surprise that I love this outfit and of course, your kimono, my beautiful friend! Definitely a great way to beat the heat and still look fabulous! I am so sorry that you have to deal with all the chaos of will probate. A total nightmare, indeed. I wish it upon no one…dealing with anything related to the death of loved ones is pure torment, but something that we all must go through in this life. I hope you get through it as easily as possible and can move forward with life in general. I will… Read more »

I feel ya on the summer time crunch sister… my time crunch just seems to be ALL. YEAR. LONG.

I LOVE that you styled the sundress with a kimono. You KNOW my love for kimonos but i wouldn’t have necessarily thought about that.

Hugs!

Adulting is hard and I hope all of this wraps up quickly for you. My husband had to handle his aunt’s affairs when she passed and that was crazy since she was living in a nursing home in PA and we’re here! Ugh, bless his heart. He also handles his mom’s affairs as she has Alzheimer’s. I’m not sure how he manages it. It is very frustrating! Love this dress on you with the kimono, the a’c here is such an issue. It’s blazing hot outside and then we freeze indoors. Thank heavens for kimonos, they are the perfect layering… Read more »

Bless your heart Debbie. I know it’s difficult dealing with all the red tape that accompanies the loss of a loved one. We lost my FIL a month ago and while my MIL is still living there were some things that had to be taken care of. Thankfully they have a trust and that does seem to streamline things. I’m like you and go for a cute dress frequently when trying to beat the heat. I love the addition of your kimono. I’m trying to work up the guts to get one. I’m short and I’m just not sure how… Read more »

GAH, I somehow unintentionally hit “send” WAY too soon, ha ha. The next line WAS : CAN YOU IMAGINE! If bloggers had to adhere to a timeline, we’d ALL be out on our butts! No worries about lateness, skipping posts, or crappy posts (I’m adding that one for my own benefit) – we love YOU. I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with all this ADULTING. There’s the kind of adulting most of manage to put on auto pilot, going about our days, going to work, preparing meals, washing dishes (sometimes – that one’s not so auto-pilotty for me)…and there’s… Read more »

Debbie,

I am very much like you when I thought I could write 2-3 blog posts a week and still be an interior designer. WRONG!
Yes, our lives are not perfect and we have to deal with daily tasks that we would rather not have to deal with.

I know you hve so much work to do as your father’s administrator and I hope someday you will write about it.
Many of us will be executors to our parents will and would love some insight.

As always friend youre rocking the kimono style!

Hugs,
Robin

So many us are at the point in our lives that what you are going through is something we have either been there or will be at some point. Your experience will be so helpful to many of us. I’m just sorry you have to go through it. Love your outfit, I always get so much inspiration from you. You rock the kimono! Have a good weekend.

I thought your sundress was the black cami from walmart that matches the red one you own. I wore the black one today on the blog, exact same pattern. Too funny. PS good luck with the adulting today, life sure does suck sometimes

Beautiful dress and kimono Debbie! We don’t have to worry about air con in the UK because we don’t have it! For the few weeks of the year that it’s hot we just melt into a puddle…my car has no air con and being stuck in traffic jams is torture! Thanks for linking up!
