Ruched Front Top & Ankle Boots: Weekly Randomness

Black ruched top, denim shorts and ankle boots.

Happy beginning of the week friends! Buckle up because it’s time for the second installment of Weekly Randomness…

THE STORY

…aka things that for one reason or another my caught my attention…

  • The heatwave that’s currently scorching North America and taking names spawned a fun new weather term for me…Heat Dome; yep, I dig it. It sounds like the final round that you advance to after you’ve dominated in the Thunderdome. Not sure what a “heat dome” is? Well here ya go. I did the research for you. It joins my list of favorite weather terms including polar vortex (kinda the opposite of a heat dome I’d say), thundersnow and of course, bombogenesis.
  • How cool is it that my 14 year old daughter is absolutely loving Cyndi Lauper? To me Cyndi, along with Madonna, is the 80’s. So much of how I dressed and acted in the 80’s was modeled after those two. I think what initially caught my girl’s interest was Cyndi’s outspoken political activism in regard to human rights. That led to her getting into Cyndi’s music and of course she follows her on Instagram. I’m seriously loving it.
  • Speaking of human rights, I recently purchased a couple more tees from the Human Rights Campaign for my daughter and I. At the beginning of last week I received a text from an actual person involved with the HRC asking if I’d be able to volunteer at the Pride March in Erie this past weekend, which unfortunately I was unable to do. My son (who is very into politics) told me that political campaigns and organizations like HRC are now using this method to contact potential volunteers for events that are in their area. It wasn’t spammy at all and I only received the one text…I actually think it’s a kind of cool way to get more people involved in things that really matter.
  • One of my favorite blogger friends is Bettye from Fashion Schlub. If you don’t know Bettye yet, you need to. She just posted her June Month In Review post and she threw a whole lotta love my way which I so appreciate. Definitely swing by check it out and say hello!
  • And finally, I love reading the BuzzFeed lists that show up in my news feed on my phone. This is one that I definitely wanted to share. It’s titled “100 Pictures That Will Make You Feel Better About The World”. It will make you smile, tear up and maybe restore your faith in humanity. It’s tough to pick a favorite from the list, but I particularly loved #13. Yes, it’s a bit lengthy, but it’s a quick read and definitely worth the time.

THE OUTFIT

Nothin’ fancy going on here today. This was just a cute super casual outfit that I wore for a coffee date with my bestie. The denim shorts and boots I’ve had for several years. The boots are actually leather and were a bit more of an investment. I own a plethora of lower end shoes, but when it’s footwear that will see a lot of mileage, for example my Birks or a basic neutral toned boots or even sneakers I’m willing to invest a little more than normal.

I found the top at JCPenney a couple of months ago. I simply cannot pass up a cute boho top. I also have it in a blushy/rose gold shade. When I posted that top, I got a few comments in regard to the front ruching. It seems that the more well endowed amongst us traditionally shy away from ruching. I can’t speak for all front ruched tops, but this one does not add any bulkiness to the girls. I believe that the key is the lightweight gauze-like material. It flows nicely down the front without any extra undue attention up top.

What I really love about the front ruching is that it gives you the option to have a sort of crop top look without the actual crop top…you’ll notice in some of the shots there’s just a hint of belly showing. But, if a hint of belly isn’t your thing you can untie the drawstring and loosen up the ruching so that’s it’s more than long enough to cover any exposed skin.

THE TIP

I’m definitely a huge fan of budget anything…whether it be shoes, clothes, whatever…saving bucks makes me happy. But, when you’re considering buying something that will get a lot of wear, it oftentimes behooves you to shell out more cash up front to save you money in the long run.

Ahhhh….you’re in my favorite alleyway. It’s so fun that it’s so decorated and whimsical!!
And I absolutely love the ankle boots with the shorts. I always gravitate towards my sandals once it warms up, but I need to remember how stylish the boots look with shorts!!

What a cute, simple outfit. Your shorts are the perfect length and the top has enough details to give it extra style, nice find. I agree with Jodie on the photo locale, it couldn’t be anymore interesting or “you”. I don’t know *how* you pull off booties once the “heat dome” hits. Being in FL, I put some on recently and took them right off…

Oh yes, that alleyway is amazing! What a great backdrop for your fabulous photos! We are so used to heat here in Hotlando but I feel for the rest of the country. When you’re not really ready for the heat it is unbearable. I know a lot of places up north don’t have a/c and that just sounds dangerous right now. When we were in SF they were having their Pride events, the city was full of rainbows, messages of love and acceptance in every store window! My heart broke a few times when young kids were holding signs saying… Read more »

First, Cyndi is ALL THAT. When I had my first singing lesson I said she was my vocal idol (and hair too). Thanks for sharing those 100 happy pix. #21 might be my favorite, being a part-time New Yorker. Oh, and the restaurant with free Thanksgiving dinner. xox

Hi, Debbie
It’s always a mystery to me how stuff looks good on you that wouldn’t on me though we have a similar build. You just seem to be able to pull off anything you like! Maybe you should share the secret of a flat belly, though…
Thanks,
Angie

I am so excited that you daughter is following your footsteps in life and totally love the Cyndi fanfest, The texting for volunteers is a pretty cool idea especially if its only one text. Thanks for sharing that and now I will head over to Bettye’s site

Hi Debbie
You look great in black and I love this casual look, I am waiting on a pair of jean shorts myself as it is , as you said, a Heat Dome here in Charlotte! I love seeing the sun, but not so much heat and humdity. That is so neat that your daughter loves Cindy Lauper. Yes, Girls Just wanna have fun is such a song of the 80s and i do think of her an Madonna being the 80s icons.
thanks for linking!

I love the shorts with the boots! I was a huge fan of Cyndi and Madonna in my younger days – their music from the 80s still sounds great today! Thanks for linking up!
