Fringe Vest & Peasant Top: The Finale

fringe vest, peasant top, denim shorts, booties

Alas, all good things must come to an end…

THE STORY

…and so this is the final post of Boho Week brought to you my myself and Ada of Elegance & Mommyhood. It’s been a great week and a lot of fun to see how both Ada and I interpret boho style and we hope you’ve enjoyed it. I can also say with close to 100% certainty that this will also be the last shorts outfit of the season. Fall seems to have a firm hold now and the temperatures are steadily dropping so the shorts are pretty much out of rotation, which at the moment is probably a good thing.

Why? Well, did you know that approximately 300 ER visits per day are associated with pet related falls? Wait, what? I was just talking about shorts and went off the rails, right? Nah, this actually ties in to me not wearing shorts for reasons other than the weather. Last week I got taken out by our bulldog. And I don’t mean the nice dinner and a movie taken out, I mean literally launched into the air and taken out. While I didn’t have to visit the ER he did do a number on me. He was chasing my sheltie, which on occasion he decides is a good idea. You see, in his mind, he’s the pack leader, so therefore he gets a bug up his butt to assassinate the current pack leader (the sheltie) and put a new regime in place. I was trying to get her safely tucked into her crate when the little tank (can you imagine this little ball of sweetness is now a tank?!) came barreling into the room. Did he take me out on purpose? No. I was simply standing in the way of his dream. And believe me, the boy is determined to make his dream come true. When gravity took it’s due course, I came down on the edge of a dog crate before bouncing rather ungracefully off of the treadmill. After I peeled myself off of the floor I realized my hamstring/butt area hurt, but I figured I’d live. My friends, the next day the mother of all bruises appeared. I mean, like a bruise the size of which I’ve never seen. It is a good six inches wide and wraps from my inner thigh to my outer thigh on the back of my leg. And the colors? So vivid and varied I’m pretty sure Pantone would be jealous. To sum it up, not a good look for shorts wearing purposes.

THE OUTFIT

I found this peasant top on a recent Target excursion and I knew it would be absolutely perfect paired with the fringe vest I had gotten on super ginormous sale at JCPenney. Was I right or what? It’s like they were made for each other. I snuck the distressed denim shorts in for one last go ’round (this was pre-giant bruise) because I wanted to keep the look laid back and casual. I typically only add one or two elements of a particular look in one outfit to avoid it crossing over into “costume” territory. You know what I’m sayin’…cowboy boots + Wranglers + flannel shirt = “I just got a side gig as a ranch hand.” In any case, I thought all of the elements of this outfit worked without going from boho cool to vagabond gypsy.

THE TIP

Be careful when pairing items of a similar style as to avoid looking like you’re going to a Halloween party as opposed to brunch with friends. Unless of course it’s a Halloween brunch, then all bets are off.

Oh no so sorry about that Debbie. I hope you feel better already. I cant stop laughing at ‘side gig as a ranch hand’. I so enjoy your writing. These pieces were surely made for each other. They work harmoniously well for a great boho look. Congrats to you and Ada for really great styling.Gosh your vest is so cute I can’t take it.

Oh, dear .. sorry about your fall! My mom recently had a similar accident when she got tripped up by their doberman (who is a big sweetie, but moves like a mac truck).

Your outfit is really cute and looks really fun to kick around in .. I love Target and JCP for clothing 🙂

Omg I am so sorry your bulldog did a bad number on you. I bruise very easily and it seems every week I get some type of a bruise. I loved your finale look. The peasant top looks even prettier up close and with that detail shot I can see your gorgeous jewels. I think we did justice to Bohemian looks this week. It was a pleasure and a ton of fun to do this series with you. I say we do it again come Spring, no? P.S. The way you worded this post, it made me laugh. You are… Read more »

I like (and learned from) your wise words on how to avoid crossing the line into costume territory. It’s a subject I’ve often wondered about and even struggled with. Incorporating fun elements seems playful but too many of them and we cross the dreaded line, losing respect for our outfit. You’re a good teacher on this subject ’cause you frequently use playful pieces but with careful restraint. Thanks, teach!

You look great in this color!! But, on another note, I feel your pain and the bruises are never fun. I had a giant really dark bruise and it took weeks to heal. Thank goodness it was winter and living in pants was acceptable. 🙂 Good luck with that bruise. xo~ Megan The Fashionista Momma

Hope all of your bruises have healed. 🙁 I so love how your fringed vest and booties look together! Your peasant top is so pretty against your neutrals here. Thanks for linking up with Fabulous Friday, Debbie!
