Today is the second monthly installment of The Ageless Style Link Up…
THE STORY
…Myself and eight other lovely ladies have again joined fashion forces, and this time we bring you our favorite summer looks. Just like last month, our styles run the gamut from casual (guess who?) to dressy with a little something for everyone in between. Be sure to scroll down and link up what you’re currently wearing…we can’t wait to see!
And isn’t that what personal style is all about? It’s a way to express ourselves outwardly to the world; I think everyone has a bare bones style, their go-to look if you will. But fashion gives us the chance to change our persona from day to day if the mood strikes us. It gives us a temporary way to change up who we are if we so desire and to share a little piece of the not so obvious aspects of our personalities that we don’t necessarily allow out to play on a daily basis.
THE OUTFIT
How sweet is this lace duster? Guess what? I actually found it in the random swimsuit coverup/kimonos in the accessories section at JCPenney. Sometimes you stumble upon the coolest things in places that you wouldn’t think to look. I wore this outfit to school a week or so ago on a dress down day. I was determined to find a way to sneak in my distressed (actually they’re so beat they are no longer distressed, more like distraught) denim boyfriend shorts at work. Ya, that’s the rebellious 12 year old that resides in my brain. What better way to do it than camouflage them under a pretty tunic top and lace duster? This is the same tunic that I’ve worn as a dress with an extender under it. Gotta love the versatility of it. The fringe sandals I scored last year at Payless finished off the look.
THE TIP
Try looking at pieces in your closet in new ways. Have a long top that you love? Throw a skirt extender underneath and you have a dress. Or by the same token, layer a dress over skinny jeans or leggings and you have an entirely different look. Turn a swimsuit cover up into a layer over a top and shorts like I did today. I’ve even been known to pull a maxi skirt up over the girls, throw a sweater over top and voila! A whole new skirt. Point is, just because a piece is meant to be one thing that doesn’t mean that it can’t be something else entirely.
