Layered Dusters & Graphic Tee: Nevertheless, We Persisted

Layered dusters, graphic tee and jeans. How to layer cardigans.

Every once in awhile I’ll happen upon a quote that is really personally meaningful to me…

THE STORY

…The power of words is immense and what resonates with one person may not be the same thing that resonates with someone else. And who would’ve have guessed that what just might be my favorite quote of all time would come from a curmudgeonly, perhaps sexist, elderly Republican man? And I’m sure that in light of the intent of his words, he probably isn’t exactly excited about the fact that his words resonated with so many women.

For me, the words aren’t just about politics. Yes, they beautifully sum up the fight of all women who came before us; the fight of all who have ever been silenced for any reason. But they also speak to my life and to the lives of anyone who has ever faced adversity. Plain and simple, persistence is what got me where I am today.

If I had not persisted against the ugliness, had I not persisted against the preconceived notions, had I not persisted against the adversity of my past I would not be the woman that I am today. And I am certain that I am not alone in this. We have all had to persist at some point in our lives. We have all had to fight the good fight; whether it be for ourselves, for those we love or for the world at large. Nevertheless, we have persisted. And those are words to live by.

THE OUTFIT

Layered dusters…who knew? I layer everything else, so why did it never occur to me to layer two dusters together? One would have been fine, but two just makes it so much more interesting. The lace duster is actually a bathing suit cover up that I found last summer at JCPenney.

The graphic tee was one that I absolutely had to have. I love a good graphic tee, but particularly when it really means something to me; whether it be a tee commemorating somewhere that I’ve been or an experience I’ve had or a meaningful slogan like this one. This tee will no doubt be on repeat with my ever-present denim boyfriend shorts once the weather warms up and stays that way.

And speaking of warmer weather, I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite tops from Shein for Spring/Summer. They have an incredible selection of all things embroidered, ruffled, floral print and pastel for the upcoming warmer weather. And that my friends, is something to get excited about. I think my favorite is #1, how about you?

1. Floral Off The Shoulder Top//2. Pink Lace Bell Sleeve Top//3. Embroidered Mesh Top//4. Embroidered Button Down//5. Purple Lace Bell Sleeve Top//6. Striped Ruffle Top

THE TIP

Get creative with your layering. Layering is one of those things that we all do to varying degrees, but creative layering takes it to a whole other level. For example, two dusters ( or long cardigans if you prefer) is a whole lot more interesting than one don’t you think? But it isn’t necessarily something that you would think to do. So many things can be layered if we start looking at it creatively; dresses/skirts over pants, long wool coat over a denim jacket, cami/bralette over a tee…see what I mean? Don’t be afraid of the out of the ordinary…that’s what makes getting dressed so much fun.

I love how the lace duster peeks out from the topper and creates a new texture — very nice! And I have to get that T-shirt for all the members of my “resistance” group!

LOVE the edginess of this and the fact that you added a duster, which is one of my favorite looks lately, is fabulous. Such a petty lady!!

Hey Debbie! I love your whole look! The t-shirt, of course, but also the OTK boots plus the jewelry and the dusters. You really put together creative outfits from regular items. A bathing suit cover up? I love it!

This tee is just perfect. You always teach me so much about how to layer, so I just love these double layered dusters, Debbie. They work wonderfully together. Thanks so much for linking up!
