Yesterday we spent Father’s Day in Pittsburgh at Pride Fest 2014 with our son and his boyfriend. It was such a great time. I got to see two things I’ve never witnessed before and I think my heart and my mind are both better for it. First and most importantly, the mayor of Pittsburgh married twenty gay and lesbian couples prior to the parade and they all walked the parade route. It choked me up to see how happy they all were to finally have the same rights as all of the rest of us.
The second thing I saw for the first time ever in real life, were hardcore religious zealots carrying protest signs. You know what was really cool? There were two of them, just two, compared to the thousands of people who were there to celebrate what is only fair and right. It makes you stop and think that maybe, just maybe, the world isn’t such a bad place after all.
The tee I’m wearing is obviously in support of Pride Fest, but you know I had to make it my own. So I cut the collar off and made it into an off the shoulder boatneck. Yep. That’s about as crafty as you’ll ever see me get…cutting off the neck of a t-shirt. Mad skills, right? Since I was going to be walking around the city in the heat of the day I kept the rest simple with the ever present denim boyfriend shorts and slip on sneakers. Don’t worry, I promise tomorrow’s outfit will be a tad bit snazzier…
