Ahhh…the life of a dog mom. Every day it’s like you’re wrangling hairy toddlers; especially if you have more than one…
THE STORY
…Since I have four furry children I truly am a hairy toddler wrangler, and quite honestly, not a very good one. Back in the day, I actually had a dog trainer come to our house for personal pack training. Um ya, you can see by the photos below how well that worked out for me.
I take my blog photos at home a lot more often in the Summer for two reasons. A) My yard is way prettier and easier to navigate in the Summer, and B) It is virtually impossible to take photos without the fur children all up in my business. In the Summer that’s fine because I’m not freezing my a** off and have the time to deal with them, but in the Winter speed is my friend and they don’t exactly make a speedy photo shoot easy.
On this particular day they deemed themselves “testers of the resiliency of my new tights”. You should see the twenty other shots of all four of them attempting to maul me. While I know it’s out of their undying love for mama whom they haven’t seen all day, that doesn’t make it any less frustrating. Every single day when I get home (unless I have to take pictures) I change into my sweats as soon as I walk in the door. That practice started a few years back when one of my little angels shredded my brand new tulle skirt that I’d worn only once.
All of the frustration aside (including escaping daytime captivity and opening, yes opening, my camera bag and scattering my DSLR and all of it’s accoutrements all over the floor), I wouldn’t trade ’em for the world. There’s nothing like the unconditional love, pure joy in being alive, and warm wiggly cuddles that a dog provides. As a matter of fact, if we all learned a few lessons from dogs, I think the world would in all likelihood, be a much happier place.
THE OUTFIT
This outfit comes to you courtesy of my tendency to hoard clothing…this skirt has been in the attic unworn and unloved for a few years now. As a matter of fact it was on the chopping block and about to be donated. I held onto it for a bit longer though and I’m glad I did because it’s the perfect partner for my cozy teal sweater from American Eagle. Since it worked out so well, I figure the skirt gets to live to see another day.
I actually built this look around my Berkshire Easy On Tights. I’m always a happy girl when they contact me to work together. They are one of the companies that I’ve worked with over the years that I absolutely love…and that’s saying a lot because I’ve never been a fan of tights or hosiery in general. You see, I like to be comfortable…All. The. Time. And to me, tights do not equate with comfort. The Easy On line though is designed for comfort. They’re super soft with an extra stretchy wider waistband which does indeed make them comfortable. Since I started working with them a few years ago, Berkshire is the only brand of tights/hosiery that I own. I kid you not, they’re that good.
I finished the look with my ever-present over the knee boots. I swear, I don’t know what I did before they existed. They make just about anything look fabulous, add extra warmth to your gams when the Winter winds are blowing and…provide extra protection for your tights when you’re accosted by a rowdy pack of dogs.
THE TIP
Tights are a must in the colder climates; whether they are sheer or heavier weight. They also add a more polished look for those times when bare legs just aren’t an option. I cannot recommend Berkshire tights more highly (they also have a pretty sweet selection of anklets too) so if you’re on the market for new legwear give them a try.
