Red Sweater & Leopard Ankle Boots: Christmas Mud Pit

Red sweater, leopard ankle boots and plaid blanket scarf.

Although I’m a total weather nerd aficionado, I gotta say it has been somewhat of a disappoint the last few years…

THE STORY

…I’m not a huge fan of snow and cold. Yes, I realize I live in an area that has actual Winter, but that doesn’t mean I have to love it. Anyhow, if it’s going to be cold, then I want there to be snow. That way at least there’s something pretty to look at while I’m freezing my ass off. And besides, as any fashion blogger in the northern parts of the world can attest to, snow makes for a mighty fine background when shooting outfit shots.

Here’s where the disappointment comes in though. As you can see, when I took these shots just a few days ago, there was a pretty nice amount of the fluffy stuff. And in light of the fact Christmas is this weekend I was pretty pumped because the single absolute best reason for snow is Christmas. Snow just makes Christmas more, ummm…Christmas-y. I kept obsessively checking my weather app and it continued whispering sweet nothings to me, telling me that this week would be in the 30’s; thus fueling my excitement over having a white Christmas since it’s been like three years since we actually had one.

Imagine my annoyance when yesterday crept into the upper 30’s. And when I woke up this morning…it was raining. Seriously, WTH? Tuesday and Friday are predicted to be near 50. You had one job weatherman…one job. Because, you know, the local meteorologist controls all weather events, therefore it has to be his fault that the snow has all melted and my front yard has transformed from a Winter Wonderland to a mud pit highlighted with twinkle lights.

THE OUTFIT

Funny thing about red…wear it around the holidays and suddenly it’s “festive”. Especially when combined with plaid. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I’m just saying…if I wear this same red sweater/boyfriend jeans/ plaid blanket scarf combo on say, January 22nd, it won’t be festive it will just be a cute casual outfit. Weird, am I right?

The other funny thing about red is the antiquated belief that redheads shouldn’t wear red. I have to say, being the little rebel that I am, I do not concur. In my opinion, the red sweater along with the red lippie looks just fine with my coloring.

Speaking of coloring, I paired my darker wash boyfriend jeans with it because of the nice contrast they provide. I just don’t think it would have looked quite as nice with lighter wash denim, but that’s just my opinion. Since it was a particularly cold day I added the plaid blanket scarf as my third piece to spice things up. And in my book, nothing goes better with plaid than leopard so I finished it off with my favorite leopard wedges.

THE TIP

Just because there are “rules” that say you shouldn’t wear a particular color, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a try. Just like with most things, there is no “one size fits all” guideline for colors. If you are drawn to a color, try it out and see if it works. If you don’t like what it does for you, but still love the color then try it away from your face. For example a skirt, pants or shoes in a color that doesn’t necessarily suit your complexion will work since the color is not near your face.

I LOVE leopard with red! Festive or otherwise. I never really got that “redheads can’t wear ____” nonsense. Maybe the same person that made that up also said fat girls shouldn’t wear stripes. Cuz it’ll make them look, uhm, fat. Uh, stripes or no stripes, I’m fat. And I look it! I WISH there was some article of clothing so powerful that it could make me look one way or another. That would be fun. My little yard has turned into a mud pit, so I know the misery you’re experiencing. Every time the dog comes inside I have to… Read more »

It is a funny thing how we blame the “messenger” for the change of weather—especially around Christmas!! What ever happened to be surprised the day the weather arrives, right???
As for the red—not only is it festive, but it’s also powerful. It all just depends on our perspective!!!
As for those leopard booties—now those are fierce anytime of the year!!!

Good thing you do not believe in those antiquated rules about who should wear what color because red is fabulous on you! This whole ensemble is great!! I love the scarf and the camel coat, oh my goodness, I have never had to own a coat before but if I did I would want that one! Gorgeous.
I am aggravated by the weather here – it will be 80 on Christmas Day. 80. That’s disgusting. Oh well, maybe next year.

I had to take the pug downstairs and wash her paws it is so muddy in the backyard. What a mess!

I too would rather have snow on Christmas but once Christmas is passed I’ll take rain any day over snow.

Love your cozy outfit and the leopard booties.

Wishing you all the best in 2018.

Debbie,

Yes weather is unpredictable (we got 4″ snow in Atlanta in December ) but I am not a cold weather girl and moved away from the winters on the East coast 5 years ago. It seems to have followed me here. LOL!

I love your look today and please by all means keep breaking the rules!

Merry Christmas!

Definitely a cute outfit anytime! Love the leopard booties. I wore red all the time when I was redheaded and it works fine. Who came up with these rules anyway?

Here’s what I love most about your style…it completely matches mine! Ha! Yet we have totally different coloring and completely different body types, we have exactly the same style! And I naturally would pair my leopard booties with a red sweater, boyfriend jeans, and plaid blanket scarf. In fact, I think I did exactly that twice last week. You rock and always inspire me, Debbie! Thanks so much for linking up with me!
