Ruffle Sleeve Sweatshirt & Moto Vest: 20 Things You Probably Don’t Need To Know About Me

Ruffle sleeve sweatshirt, moto vest and cropped skinny jeans.

In the last month or so, a few of my blogger friends have done posts with lists of things that we don’t know about them. I absolutely love reading lists like that; it’s a quick way to get to know a little bit more about someone and usually you find at least one entertaining nugget of information…

THE STORY

…So, yep, you guessed it. That’s what I decided to do for today’s post. Without further adieu, 20 things you probably don’t know about me:

  1. When I was 4 years old I got ran over by a motorcycle. Literally ran over…as in I had tread marks across my legs. My father used to race motorcycles, and we were at the track. He had won a race and I was all excited. I got away from my mom and made a mad dash for the pit. On the way there I got creamed by a bike. And I was such a little bad ass, I got up and kept running.
  2. Sarcasm is my second language.
  3. If sarcasm is my second, then cussing is my third language. Hey, I never claimed to be a lady.
  4. I’m terrified of gargoyles. Ya, ya…I realize they aren’t real, but that doesn’t make them less terrifying.
  5. I’m also afraid of the dark.
  6. And birds. Birds suck. Unless they are hummingbirds, in which case they rock.
  7. I love butterflies, in particular monarchs. I believe with my whole heart that the spirit of my sweet sheltie boy, Titus, visits me every Summer in the form of a monarch butterfly.
  8. I decided when I was 5 years old that I was going to teach children with special needs. My baby brother was born with multiple disabilities and passed away when he was only a month old. That’s when I knew what I was going to do when I grew up.
  9. I’m not very friendly at all when I first meet someone. It’s a protective device that I’ve honed to a science over the years. I have to feel a person out first before I decide if I want to be around them.
  10. I’m a loud obnoxious laugher…if something amuses me, you’ll know it.
  11. I have zero attention span and get bored super fast. If I get sent to hell, my hell will be a meeting of some sort in a windowless room where I’m not allowed to talk and it will last for eternity.
  12. The texture of chicken in my mouth grosses me out.
  13. When I’m eating a meal with several items, say meat, potatoes and a vegetable, I finish with exactly one bite of each left. This is something that I’ve done since I was little and I still always do it without even being aware that I’m doing it.
  14. I absolutely cannot stand chipped nail polish. I will not leave the house if my polish is chipped and if I break/chip a nail during the day it will drive me insane until I can get home and fix it.
  15. My hair is naturally brown…okay, now it’s actually naturally about 90% gray…I kid you not.
  16. I’m extremely claustrophobic.
  17. The claustrophobia went from “claustrophobic” to “extremely claustrophobic” when I went caving with my father when I was about 12. We got lost in a cave system that resulted in us elbow crawling on our bellies through a tunnel and we emerged from a not very large hole in the ground like groundhogs.
  18. Fall is my favorite season, hands down.
  19. I’m cold all of the time, especially my feet. My husband makes fun of me for covering with throw blankets even in the middle of the Summer.
  20. One of my biggest pet peeves is improper grammar, punctuation and/or spelling.

THE OUTFIT

I have to say, I absolutely love this ruffle sleeve sweatshirt from American Eagle. Not only because of the obvious…the ruffles on the sleeves, but also because it is insanely soft and it’s that just right weight for a sweatshirt. Not too heavy, not too lightweight; enough to keep you cozy without smothering you. And it’s currently under $16 so a few more colors just might be in order.

I chose my moto vest for an extra layer of warmth. A vest just made sense in light of the ruffles on the sleeves. There are few things that I hate more than feeling constricted in a coat or jacket. I had my heart set on wearing my fishnet knee highs with my cropped jeans and ankle boots, but somehow between the laundry room and bedroom I misplaced one. I seriously wasted 10 minutes looking for it, but to no avail. I have a theory in regard to it’s disappearance and that theory involves a bulldog…just sayin’. In any case, I had to sub in my sheer black knee highs and even though it wasn’t exactly what I was going for, they worked in a pinch.

THE TIP

Sleeve details are kind of the thang currently. Bell sleeves, ruffles, lacing, ruching…all are beautiful and add a little extra something to an otherwise ordinary top, but sleeve details can make outerwear a tricky proposition. I have found that the easiest way around that (at least until Winter hits) is by using a vest as your outerwear layer choice. That way there is no uncomfortable bunching and the pretty sleeve details are still visible.

Isn’t that funny?

I had you pegged as a fellow blond : )

I also have very cold hands and feet. I wonder if that isn’t part of our autoimmune disease?

I also laugh loudly and I swear quite a bit too, a trait I learned from my French husband.

So fun to read this, Debbie. And if we ever get together and start laughing—we’d be the focal point of everyone and everything. My license plate actually reads “HAHHAH” just because my laugh is crazy too!!!

Oh jeez #17 freaking me out and I’m not even claustrophobic. That’s just a horrible story 🙁

That was fun to read. I may have to follow your lead and do one of these, too…

Wow, a sweatshirt I’d actually love to wear! So cute and such a great price.
Loved reading your 20 – who in the heck gets run over by a motorcycle and gets up and runs off? Holy cow! You are a bad ass. I speak sarcasm and curse like a sailor at times. My former principal used to always kid me about it saying how can you look like Miss America and sound like a frat boy? Ha! I can and I do!

Very cool rock chick look! I also have very cold hands and feet all the time. I believe mine is due to low blood pressure.

I’m pretty sure we were separated at birth. I seriously could’ve written this post. Birds are the worst.

I’m so digging sleeve details, especially on sweatshirts. Which is funny because I used to not be a sweatshirt girl. But I bought one at JC Penney that has pearl beading on the sleeves and I adore it. Also your tip about vests is spot on.
