Tie Front Thermal Top & Distressed Jeans: Good For The Soul

Tie front thermal top & distressed jeans.

This past Saturday was one of those just right days that are good for the soul…

THE STORY

…My girl and I decided to have a mother/daughter day so we took a drive to do a little boutique shopping in a nearby small town called Volant. It’s a tiny little town, but the main street is lined with a plethora of cool somewhat artsy little boutiques. We made a stop at my friend Heather’s tea shop, Special-Teas since my daughter (much like her brother) has a thing for tea. Me, not so much…I’m a coffee girl so I’m not exactly sure where they got their tea love from. Special-Teas does ship, so if you’re a tea lover check out their site. My daughter’s favorite (and I actually loved it too) is the Berry Harvest Blend so if fruity is your jam give it a try.

Then we happened upon this little slice of heaven next door. It’s called Wicked Little Witches, and as you can see from the photo below, it is right up my alley…if they’d allow me I’d probably live there along with the fairies and all things magical. Each little room had something that I wanted. There were homemade soaps, fragrances and bath bombs; the coolest home decor stuff…and a room full (yes, a room full) of handbags. You know that I got one, and you know it’ll be showing up here soon.

We also stopped by The Showroom which is a women’s clothing boutique. The owner, Barb, had reached out to me so I stopped in to meet her in person. She is so sweet and you feel welcome the minute that you walk in. There was all kinds of fabulousness to be found there as well. So many cute clothes! When it’s time to add some new Spring/Summer pieces I’ll definitely be heading back.

The best part of the day though was simply quality time with my girl. We always have so much to talk about, and we have the same sarcastic sense of humor (surprising, I know) so we always have fun when we’re together. The rest of the world can be a hot mess, but if we’re together the background noise disappears and all is well.

THE OUTFIT

Distressed denim is one of those clothing items that seems to attract quite a bit of debate; particularly in regard to whether or not women of “a certain age” should still wear it…is it appropriate? First of all, let’s dispense with the word “appropriate”. Yes, there are certain scenarios where appropriate dress is required; think formal events, church, funerals, work. But if the word appropriate is being tied to age, then no, the word becomes irrelevant. I wear my denim distressed because I love it, because it’s appropriate for me. There’s a strong chance I’ll still be rocking it in my 80’s. You on the other hand might not love it therefore you shouldn’t wear it, it’s not appropriate for you. Does that make sense?

Now, for those of you who enjoy your jeans on the shredded side, in my opinion there is no better denim than American Eagle. I do still wear my GAP distressed jeans, but my big love is saved for AE. This pair is my newest addition to the collection. I own them in a dark wash and my original light wash pair blew out on me so these are the replacements.

I can’t resist a good waffle knit top and the one I’m wearing is ANA from JCPenney’s. I have several that are button front, but what attracted me to this one was that it didn’t button. I plan on picking it up in navy blue as well, and might I suggest sizing down if you’re thinking of getting one for yourself. I’m typically a medium or small in tops depending on where they’re from and this one is an extra small. Trust me, it does run big…the girls do not fit into extra small tops as a general rule.

Since today’s outfit is super casual and really nothing too earth shattering on the sartorial front, I added some sass with the leopard coat and red plaid scarf. I was dressing for comfort since my daughter and I were walking around town boutique shopping. Since we were going to be outside the most important element of the outfit was the outerwear so that’s what I focused on in regard to visual appeal.

THE TIP

If you’re going to be spending a lot of time outside focus on your outerwear. That’s what people will see, so that should be the emphasis.

I got a tea from hubby with Christmas, it tasted like marshmallow! I like tea, but I am not of the flavoured tea. Just hot water with lemon and ginger will do for me.

I hear you about the outerwear Debbie. I wear my leopard outerwear with my winter destroyed jeans, which have patches. It’s cold, and I need more warmth. Cute shirt.
