Last Friday was the first in a two-part collaboration with two of my favorite blogging friends…
THE STORY
…Jennie, Sheela and I decided to share a total of six different ways to style what just may be the most fabulous velvet suit ever. The whole story of how it came into being is in last week’s post so I won’t bore you with it again.
I’ve said before that one of my favorite and most unexpected things that has come from starting this blog is the friendships. The three of us have had an online relationship for years now and for me, it’s just as real as any IRL friendship. I have not one doubt that if we are ever fortunate enough to hang out in the real world, the conversation and fun would be nonstop with not a single lag or awkward silence. The three of us let loose on a “play date” could be serious trouble…
THE OUTFIT
The words “velvet suit” don’t necessarily bring to mind casual laid back chill do they? As with most things though, it’s all about what you pair it with. When the three of us decided that our theme for styling our suits would be day and play I knew that I wanted to take mine in a “hanging out in a coffee shop people watching” sort of direction since I’m not much of a going out at night kinda girl.
The easiest way to take just about any piece out of the realm of dressed up and into the world of casual is to add sneakers and a graphic tee shirt. Throw in a chambray shirt for an extra layer of laid back interest and boom…a velvet suit that won’t leave you looking overdressed at Walmart. Okay…perhaps it might stand out in the sea of pajama clad peeps at my local Walmart, but you get my drift. The point is, I think that Jennie, Sheela and I have proven that a velvet suit just might be a worthy investment for your closet.
Last week we offered up three different interpretations for day, and today, once again, three very unique spins on a play look that virtually shout out each of our personalities; I’m all about keeping it casual, Jennie is full-on beautiful nighttime sophistication, and Sheela is the embodiment of smokin’ hotness.
We all had so much fun with this collaboration. There was no upfront consulting on how we were styling our looks which made it even more fun. The interesting thing is how apparent each of our individual personalities are in our looks. That’s what makes getting dressed so much fun; you can take a piece and make it truly unique and original by styling it according to your personal vibe.
On a side note, I was beyond excited when Loft contacted me about featuring my day look from last week in the gallery on their homepage. How cool is that? Personally, I think they should do a feature on all three of us because we’ve been doing some serious pimping for this little slice of velvet deliciousness!
I don’t know what it is…the sexy roughed up hair, the fierce shoes, the moody sequins or the “don’t mess with all of this sexiness” look on Jennie’s face…perhaps it’s a combination of all of the above, but seriously. Girlfriend is a combo pack of cool sexy perfection don’t you think? I love the pattern play between the top and suit as well as the overall moody vibe that the black and gray lends to look. Jennie reminds me of the beautiful woman out at the club that all of the men are mesmerized by yet afraid to talk to because she just might kick their ass.
Did I not already say that Sheela is the embodiment of smokin’ hotness? Dayum girl! You can always count on Sheela to be the bold and daring friend in the group…and she did not disappoint. I mean look at her; my girl is sex is on a stick. She is the woman at the club that all of the women are staring at wondering where in the hell they can buy her particular brand of self-assured cool. From the sheer top to those killer boots…this look is on fire.
I know the little teasers that I’ve provided aren’t nearly enough. Besides, you don’t want to miss Jennie and Sheela’s take on these looks so stop by both A Pocketful Of Polka Dots and Sheela Writes to see what their thoughts are on our “play date”!
THE TIP
As I always say, it’s all in the details. Even something as dressy as a velvet suit can be dressed down for a fun casual look. Simply swap out the heels for sneakers and add a graphic tee and some denim in place of a dressier top and you’ve got yourself the perfect casual outfit with a surprise edge to it.
And as Jennie and Sheela proved, a suit, which is typically all business can be “sexy-fied” with a sparkly or sheer top and a pair of super hot fierce heels.
