Waffle Knit Cardigan & Velvet Cami: Weekly Randomness

Waffle knit cardigan, velvet cami & denim shorts.

Here are a few of the things that have crossed my mind in the last week or so…

THE STORY

  • In my post from a few weeks ago, I had pondered the inner workings of the bovine mind. I had mentioned that I was going to consult a professional; one of my co-workers who happens to be a teacher and a farmer. I asked him if he could answer my cow related questions and he kindly complied…along with a smirk, because seriously, I am a weirdo. Since several of you were curious as well, I figured that I would share the answer with you. Cows decide where to spend their days based on three factors: water, food and temperature. Each day they congregate wherever the water and snacks are plentiful and the temperature is most comfortable. He did add that cows aren’t necessarily the brightest of creatures so they will sometimes follow a rebel cow who is simply trying to wander off for some alone time.
  • This list of 23 Things No One Tells About Becoming An Adult is just so spot on. Lefty loosey, righty tighty anyone?
  • You might need to up your closet cleaning game if while cleaning out your husband’s side of the walk-in closet you discover a top of yours that you have been actively looking for for the last four years. Yes…Four. Years. I just searched it on the blog and the last time I wore it was four years ago this coming November… Obviously closet organization is not my strong suit.
  • I’ve mentioned more than once that I have a strange obsession with interest in the apocalypse. Imagine my excitement when my son posted shots on his Instagram that he took when he and his boyfriend visited an old abandoned section of the PA turnpike. It is seriously a little slice of post-apocalyptic heaven…and yes, he’s promised to take me there. And you know there will be a photo shoot.

THE OUTFIT

When Lisa from Coast To Coast came up with this month’s Ageless Style Link Up theme, “The Power Of The Cardigan” I was pumped. I have quite a healthy cardigan collection I gotta say, and I’m always eager for the return of Fall so that I can rescue all of that cozy lusciousness from storage…then I realized it was still the beginning of September. In NW Pennsylvania that means only one thing, temperatures in the 90’s. As if on cue, the last week of August the temperature soared and has pretty much stayed there. With that being said, I had to get creative with the cardigan styling.

Technically speaking this waffle knit cardigan is probably more of like a top, but it buttons and you layer it over things…sounds like a cardigan to me, amirite? I simply could not bring myself to put on an actual sweater even just for pictures in this heat. Trust me, even this was a giant sweat-fest. I actually cannot wait to wear this for real with a pair of jeans, ankle boots and a graphic tee or cami underneath. I’ve got a strange love for waffle knit, no idea why, but I’ve got several waffle knit tops and this cardigan version was a must have for me.

I love that it’s loose and slouchy enough to knot in the front or it can be left loose and open as well. Even though it’s currently way too hot for Fall clothes, it isn’t too hot for Fall colors. After all, color knows no temperature. I decided since I couldn’t go full-on Fall I’d stick to a Fall palette which is why I chose my mustard yellow waffle knit to layer over my burgundy velvet burnout cami. The cardigan brings out the hints of mustard in the cami perfectly. I styled this same cami with an actual mustard yellow cardigan sweather last Fall. You can check it out here for some for real Fall vibes.

THE TIP

When you’re feeling all the Fall love, but the temperature isn’t cooperating, try incorporating some Fall hues into your outfit to get you through until the temperatures cool. Think burgundy, mustard yellow, olive green and spicy orange shades.

Hey…everything is open to interpretation, and if you consider this a cardigan….then it IS a cardigan. And a darn good one at that!!
But I always laugh at how your mind works…with cows, with organization…..

There is no reason for me to clear up my husbands wardrobe – he keeps his so organised – mine is more like organised chaos and is the one that needs a bit of time spent on it! The trouble is I hate throwing anything out! I love your ochre faux-cardi – great idea and perfect for early Autumn xx

I was curious to know about the cows so thank you for satisfying my curiosity! I loved the answer, especially about them now being particularly intelligent!
And I totally GET the whole post apocalyptic thing – that road is pure perfection, sin’t it?! I shall look forward to seeing your photoshoot, Debbie!

Perfect fall palette, perfect styling, perfectly chic and cool even though you may have been actively immersed in a sweat fest. That burnout cami is gorgeous! As for the cows, did you know that I am allergic? Yes, confirmed by allergy testing, I am highly allergic to cows! And I always wondered why I nearly die when I take my kids to the local petting farm. Like can’t breathe, itching face and uncontrollable coughing…for the entire duration of our visits there. Finally, I had the answer! Highly allergic to cows. Who would have thought?

Actually, it is not a silly question at all! It is just the dander that causes the allergy. The same as cat and dog allergies and I am allergic to those, too. And mice. I can eat beef with no issue at all. So I guess that means I could eat and dog and mouse as well! Ugh. Just kidding, So gross. But the cow one seems to be the worst. I have cats and I can tolerate them as long as they are not in my face. I can tolerate dogs as well as long as I don’t pet… Read more »

LOL at your closet story! Sandy and I share a closet too, and I get faux-offended when he holds up his jeans and says “are these yours or mine?” Your sweater looks like perfection for late summer. Thanks for hosting and linking up, you’re a beauty! xox

I agree color is the way to go when the weather doesn’t cooperate. “Hello, Florida!’ I’m surprised you were able to wear your booties–I cannot stand the thought of an enclosed shoe. I’m so relieved to find out the answer to the cow questions–Ha :)!

I have the same post-apocalyptic road near me – but mine is better than yours (nah nah) because it’s on the site of an old psychiatric hospital. Yup. I’ve done photo shoots with Caleb there over the years, but never me. He’s much more photogenic. Was. And I ALSO am obsessed with the apocalypse. I want to be the last human on earth. Imagine the freedom! Til, you know, you died. From lack of everything. But til then, PARTY FOR ONE!!! And waffle knit has been my jam since the 80s. I’m coveting a couple tops right now and trying… Read more »

I’m so happy to see I’m not the only one who has random thoughts about weird stuff. I tend to keep it to myself though, because The Hubs has even looked at me cross eyed and he promised to love me forever and always. LOL But cows are fascinating. What’s with the birds that are always around them? The white ones? I took some photos of a bridge in Mississippi and – oh my word – it looked like something from The Walking Dead. I’d love to go back and do a photo shoot… Love the cardigan. Such a pretty… Read more »

I knew there would be a photo shoot on the post-apocalyptic turnpike before you even said there would be one. I also thought it may be the current turnpike… you never know with the eternal construction going on. 😉

I love that you paired your cardi with shorts and DISTRESSED denim at that! 😉 I’ll comment back to you here… Wear what floats your own boat and makes you feel the most like YOU. I think that’s what takes clothing from just fashion to STYLE!

Debbie,

I love reading your blog posts because they always leave me with a smile!
Yes cardigans are a fabulous staple in my closet but I won’t be wearing them until November in Atlanta.
I can’t believe you girls all wrote about sweaters in this hot September!

Hugs always,
Robin
