When You’re At A Loss For Words + Lace Trimmed Tank Top & Button Down Shirt

This is one of those posts where I feel like I don’t have a whole lot to say. I’m sure that at some point in your life, you’ve been right here with me…

THE STORY

…You know, like when you run into a friend or acquaintance whom you haven’t seen for years and they ask, “What’s been going on in your life?” And your response is something along the lines of “Yeah, um, well…not too much. How ’bout you?” When in your head you have literally a thousand and twelve really good stories you could share, but not a single one pops to mind…seriously, you haven’t seen the person for years & “not too much” has happened?

Or when you sit down to fire off a quick email to someone anddd…the damn cursor sits there mocking you with each blink because your capacity to utilize the English language is like that of a toad. And there are few things worse than being mocked by technology. Besides if the computer is so damn smart then it should be writing the email for you as opposed to spewing ridicule with each blink. See, you do feel me, dontcha?

Oo, oo, wait a minute…I do have a story…and again, I bet it’s something ya’ll can relate to. Monday afternoon I popped out to my backyard to snap a few quick outfit shots for the ‘gram. Okay, maybe you can’t relate to that necessarily, but bear with me.

When I take shots in the backyard I often use the picnic table to perch on. When I hopped off the bench, my foot caught the edge of the patio bricks in jusssst the wrong way. Boom…the next thing I know I’m staring at the sky while wailing like a baby. Here’s where you can perhaps relate. In my head I’m, oh I don’t know, maybe 12 years old; my body however is most decidedly not. What would’ve been mildly irritating 20 years ago, is wildly inconvenient and painful in real time.

Based on my expertise & knowledge gained from the Google medical degree that I have (don’t we all have one of those), I have jacked up the ligaments on the outside of my foot. So here I sit with a swollen, bruised foot that I keep wrapped, iced & elevated as much as possible. If these were normal times I would have most likely gone to the ER, however since these are not normal times there was no way that was happening. And anyway I’m 99% sure they would have x-rayed it & then told me to wrap it, ice it & elevate it so I simply cut out the middle man.

Now I’m going to circle back around. If you ever find yourself at a loss for words, whether spoken or written, simply start talking/writing because believe it or not, typically something inevitably appears out of the steaming pile of nonsense. It just takes getting your brain into gear. You might surprise yourself and come up with something deeply profound or as was the case with this post, a little piece of brain candy…and we can all use a sweet treat every once in awhile.

Tell me, have you ever found yourself at a loss for words? How did you get past it?

THE OUTFIT

This outfit is probably as basic as it gets…white lace trimmed tank top, denim cut-offs & sneakers. Not that there’s anything wrong with basic mind you, anymore most days are pretty basic, amirite?

Even basic looks can be made just the slightest bit more special with the right details. For example, the lace trim on the tank top. I love lace anything for its delicate prettiness which is only enhanced when paired with something like ripped denim. This particular lace trimmed tank top came from Amazon last year & I’ve actually worn it quite often. It’s super lightweight and floaty making it perfect for hot summer days. I didn’t love the spaghetti strap layering tank that came with it so I got rid of it & wear it layered over a cami that I already had. It comes in a bunch of colors & I’m currently seriously considering the red version of it.

Since I wore this outfit grocery shopping I knew that I’d be chilly in the store & decided to layer my men’s striped button down over it instead of my usual kimono. It’s fun to switch things up every once in awhile & the menswear shirt adds a cool twist to the girly vibes from the top underneath.

99.9% of summer days I’m wearing a pair of my Birks. But keeping with the switching things up theme, I chose my adidas Stan Smith’s instead. Since the world shut down in March I’ve kind of gotten out of the habit of accessorizing, and I try to keep things light in the summer anyways. For me, delicate jewelry and summer go hand in hand. The addition of a simple pair of hoops and a delicate charm necklace (my Ettika Spiritual High Charm Necklace is my current fave) never hurts & they were perfect for a pared down basic summer outfit.

THE TIP

In the heat of summer, sometimes accessorizing just seems to be too much. I have found that sticking to super delicate pieces that can be easily layered works best. You still have a hint of bling, but without the clunky heaviness.

My hands-down favorite brand for delicate, lightweight easily layered jewelry pieces is Ettika. I have worked with them for years, however, I was purchasing their pieces a long time before we started collaborating (so do you know how excited I was when they approached me to work together…lol). Another nice thing about Ettika’s pieces is that most all of them play well together; I combine pieces that I’ve had for years with pieces that I recently received & they make the perfect stack…both necklaces & bracelets.

RICE…rest, ice, compression and elevation….yep, that’s the ticket. And the title of the post made me laugh because I know you better than that, LOL

Such a cute outfit, Debbie! That tank top is so pretty. I can totally relate to losing my words and then I do this exact same thing….begin a post about how I have nothing to say and then before I know it I have like a really long post! Haha. I hope your ankle is feeling better! (I would not have gone to the ER either…probably not even in normal times.)

I had a similar trip up this week. Was stepping into our deep bathtub to set a potted plant on the far side of the edge of the tub. Thought I had raised my leg high enough to clear the side of the tub but I hadn’t and banged my knee of the edge. Still hurting today. But ‘spose I live. I’m enjoying kimonos with my shorts but really like the blouses/button downs you have paired with yours. That lilac color is so pretty on you. Today, even with temps at 110, I wore a kimono. More to protect myself… Read more »
