Have you ever walked into a shop or opened a webpage & as soon as you laid eyes on a particular piece squealed out loud thought, “Omg…that is soooo me!”? I know that it’s happened to me a time or ten & I feel like if you’re a woman living on this planet, it has happened to you too…
THE YIN & YANG OF STYLE
We’re all drawn to certain items, places or aesthetics because of our unique personalities, and it’s the same for clothing. Whether it be individual pieces we’re obsessed with or our overall wardrobe vibe, our choices are closely connected to our personalities. We all have a personality style, and getting to know yours makes dressing for your personality style second nature.
I’m going to start with going a little “woo-woo” on ya’ll, so if you’re not into that at least try to keep an open mind, but if it doesn’t resonate with you that’s cool too. Everything in the world, including us, is made up of energy. When those energy particles vibrate at a certain frequency they create our physical form.
There are 2 types of energy inside every single human on the planet; the “yin” or feminine energy & the “yang” which is the masculine energy. The yin & yang energies have not a thing to do with being male or female, they have more to do with personality traits. Yin energy is more right-brained & thus associated with creativity, color, movement, romance, emotions & expression. Yang energy is left-brained & leans more towards logic, reasoning, power & ambition.
Typically you resonate more strongly with either your masculine or feminine energy, but some people have more of a balance between the 2, however that’s not as common as having an affinity for one or the other. I’m pretty sure if you think about it, you’re going to be able to tell which of the energies is more dominant inside of you.
Now here’s where the personality styles/types come into play. Both yin & yang have 3 unique personality styles associated with them. Each personality style has its own general physical, lifestyle & fashion features. Again, keep in mind the descriptors are generalities. You don’t have to identify with every single descriptor in order to fall under a particular personality style.
YIN (FEMININE) ENERGY:
- Romantic
- Creative
- Classic
YANG (MASCULINE) ENERGY:
- Dramatic
- Aristrocratic/Elegant
- Natural
Here are visual examples of each:
In today’s post I’m going to cover the 3 yin styles in more detail, and next week I’ll cover the yang styles. I’ll also wrap it all up for you with an explanation of how the yin & yang blend uniquely within each of us. Typically you’ll find that you more strongly identify with one yin & one yang personality style. Again, keep in mind the descriptors are generally speaking.
THE 3 YIN PERSONALITY STYLES/TYPES

As I said we all have both yin & yang energies within us to some extent, so one of the three personality styles/types from each energy will resonate with us more than the other two. I’m 100% a Creative in my yin energy without a doubt. The outfit I’m wearing today is a perfect example of that. I didn’t plan it for this post, it’s just the vibe I was feeling on that particular day. Between the flowy chiffon dark floral print, the double buckle western belt & my ever present layered necklaces & bracelets there’s no doubt I’m a Creative Yin. The amazing thing is, as you’ll see next week, the yang energy I most identify with is equally as spot-on.
Having a basic knowledge of dressing for your personality style is just one more tool to help you along in your journey to dress as your most authentic fully-expressed self.
