Some weeks more than others seem to beg for it to be the weekend…
THE STORY
…This would be one of those weeks. In addition to the most exhausting week in recent history, let us not forget that January is the longest freakin’ month of the year…double the length of any other month. And that my friends, is a scientific fact. Okay, maybe not a scientific fact, but am I wrong?
I didn’t have a bad week necessarily. Nothing strange, unusual or terrible happened. I’m not in a negative mood, nor am I stressed out at all. This week just seemed to last ten days instead of the normal five. I have for real thought that it was Thursday ever since Tuesday. And at this point in time, I am just well and truly exhausted.
Fortunately there are no big plans happening this weekend so I can simply chill. Oh wait, I forgot…This weekend involves the usual mommin’ activities…meaning chauffeuring my girl from place to place and whatnot. Oh, and then there is also some impromptu bathroom painting action about to go down. Although it’s basically the last thing on the planet I feel like doing, it just makes sense to do the painting since the entire sink is torn out and sitting in my hallway due to some drainage issues…so there’s that. The upside to all of this is that the aforementioned activities (including a paint run to Lowe’s) can be done in sweats, a.k.a. my pajamas so there actually is a silver lining…lol!
What are your thoughts…Does January seem to be ridiculously longer than all of the other months? How do you relax after a long week/month?
THE OUTFIT
Today’s outfit tells the story of boho vibes on a chilly day. This boho tunic dress from the Caite & Kyla F/W 2019 collection is a gorgeous mix of colors and patterns. The first time that I wore it was back in the fall when I styled it over skinny jeans. The colors are a mix of beautiful deep blues and browns which make it perfect for this time of the year. It’s a nice length as well…not too long, not too short.
I’ve mentioned before that I utterly despise really don’t like tights, however they are a must in areas with a cooler climate; a necessary evil if you will. Since I don’t love them, I don’t own a wide selection of colors/textures. Luckily though I had tights in the just right shade of teal to match the print in the dress. The same goes for the rust/brown over the knee boots; necessary in chilly temperatures and a perfect match for the print in the dress.
The final layer (for warmth and visual interest) is my favorite navy blue long cardigan I discovered on the clearance rack at Target last year. It was one of those rare serendipitous finds…I stumbled upon it by accident, it was like $5 and it’s so good that I wear it at least once a week, literally.
THE TIP
Tunic style boho dresses can be tricky to pull off, especially for those of us on the bustier side. Even so, it’s a style most anyone can wear if you keep a few things in mind when choosing/styling a boho tunic dress:
- The more lightweight the fabric, the better the flow of the lines.
- Choose a dress with seams that are strategically located like the one that I’m wearing today. A seam in the right place really helps rein in all of the extra fabric.
- Twist the fabric near the waist and add a pretty brooch to hold it in place like I did with this dress.
- Adding a wide belt is also a good idea. I cinched the belt at the waist on this leopard print dress, but depending on the dress style a low-slung belt at the hip would also do the trick.
- Wear a more fitted layer like a long cardigan, blazer, vest or knotted shirt over top to give the tunic dress some shape.
- Or, none of the above if you’re comfortable rocking all the loose flowy material. I often do nothing to rein in the fabric…it all depends on what I’m feeling that day.
