Floral Chiffon Skirt & Velvet Booties: Change Is In The Air

I’ve decided to change things up a little bit in regard to the blog…

THE STORY

…Right now I’m only in the planning stages, and I’m working on coming up with ideas. I feel as if the blog is having some growing pains. I have questions and I’m looking for input from all of you.

For quite some time now I’ve been really tired of the overall design. It’s been this way for far too long and it’s time for a makeover, so I’m currently on the market for a new web designer. Back in the spring there was a big scandal involving my current designer, so I figure since I’m looking to change things up anyway I might as well change designers too so I know I’m working with someone that I trust. Does anyone have suggestion for web designers I should check out?

I also feel like something (or things) is missing, but I’m not exactly sure what it (they) is. “The Story” section is something that will never go away as I love to write. I think it’s plays an integral role in making FFD somewhat unique. I also love to entertain, share knowledge and maybe encourage others to look at things from a different perspective through my writing.

Should “The Story” portion continue to be an every post thing, or should it be a weekly thing, or an every once in awhile thing? And if “The Story” were not to be in every post, what could replace that section in the posts where it’s not included?

Also, are there are topics that all of you would be interested in that I don’t really write about now? FFD is and always will be a personal style/fashion blog, however would you like to see occasional posts about makeup, hair and beauty products that I love, use and/or are interested in trying? Would you be interested in posts that are more shopping specific, for example current sales, tips for shopping, etc?

Lifestyle related posts are kind of dicey for me. I hate to cook (and as a result am not all that skilled), nor do I bake, sew or craft. However would you like to see some “day in the life” kind of posts? For example when I and or my family do or go something special would you be interested in seeing photos or reading about it?

As I said, I’m not really sure exactly what changes I want to make, I just know that things need tweaked a bit; and I know that I’ve thrown a lot of questions at you. I don’t expect answers to everything that I’ve thrown out there, however I definitely would love to hear your thoughts and ideas in the comments!

THE OUTFIT

Typically when I’m putting together any outfit I start with one piece that I really want to wear and then build the look around that piece. The foundation of this outfit was my new rose gold bar necklace. Since pink is kind of my jam, it should come as no surprise that I love rose gold.

Funny thing though, I don’t own much of a selection of rose gold jewelry so that was my focus when I was perusing the gold necklaces from AU Rate to make my selection. I’ve also wanted a bar necklace forever so choosing this particular necklace was a no-brainer. And bonus points because the length is adjustable making it easy to layer with a variety of other necklaces.

I had been wanting to wear my floral chiffon skirt because I absolutely love the colors, and the shades of deep pinks and burgundies were perfect with the rose gold. I considered a chambray shirt on top, which would have worked, however I wanted the necklaces to be the highlight so my v-neck cashmere sweater provided the perfect simple frame for the jewelry. My bright pink velvet booties (which I’m always excited to fetch from the attic come fall) and blush suede moto jacket made the outfit complete.

THE TIP

Pick one piece from your closet (or jewelry box) that you really want to wear and use it as your foundation piece. Then build the rest of your outfit around that single piece. This is an easy way to put together a look without getting overwhelmed. Instead of looking at your wardrobe as a whole, you’re looking at it as separate building blocks to add to your foundation piece.

Debbie, I have been struggling with some of the same things regarding my blog. Like you, I love to write and sometimes I feel like I am doing more repetitive stuff on fashion and not enough of my true love, which is creative writing. I really like your blog the way it is. I use Square Space for my platform and I have had good luck with it. It does require a yearly payment, but it isn’t that costly. I love your stories, but I also know it is not always easy to come up with a clear plan on… Read more »

First on the rose gold necklace. I really, really like the rose gold pieces I have and they are in heavy rotation as they seem to blend nicely with everything, so yours should get a lot of wear. On your blog–I would love to read what you’re shopping for/how you shop/ sales, etc. I love “The Story” I guess I’d gauge that on if you have an inspiration or not. I really would like to implement a story on my posts. I’m pretty sure I’m capable, it’s a) finding topics and b) taking the time. I’m looking forward to your… Read more »

I have been considering changing things up with my blog, too, design-wise and general format. I am just feeling at a cross-roads and am not sure what direction to take. I have used Hello You Designs for the past few years (with my blog and other projects) and love the different options they offer. They do offer full design services, but I have always simply purchased different themes and customized them myself. In fact, I have recently purchased a new theme for my site and plan to launch my new redesign at the first of the year. Obviously, I am… Read more »

I completely understand the urge to change things up. It’s our nature, and it’s good for brain stimulation. I look forward to the Story, as I get to know you a little better there. And of course I love it when you write about political and current events; we are soul sisters there and it’s nice to have a soul sister. Like you, I don’t cook, sew or craft, but I love to sing, read and get dressed – so whatever you want to share is bueno with me. Just stick around, we need you! xox

Debbie it’s so lovely to see you again. I’ve had a busy summer and am trying to make time to catch up on my fellow bloggers. I keep reading about the need for change – is it catching, this trend? Or maybe the 2020 thing is focussing the mind? Whatever, I think you have to find a way that still excites you and is sustainable. Personally I do like to hear about what you’ve been up to so wouldn’t like to not have your backstory there. I have a great designer if you want her details. I use her in… Read more »

I’m dying over those gorgeous velvet boots!!!

As to the other, I love hearing more about the lives of bloggers I like – what they do when they’re not blogging, where they go, what they’re reading, cooking, putting in their hair, etc.

Brilliant outfit, my friend! That is exactly how I style myself daily…pick that one item I want to wear and build from it. It could be jewelry, shoes, even a specific color of tights (I have an outfit coming to the blog tomorrow that started with kelly green tights!). As for your blog changes, I love your story section. It is one of the things that makes you unique in the blogging world. And your stories always make me feel something which is spectacular! I am not much of a make up or skin care kind of person so I… Read more »

Hi Debbie!
WHat a beautful skirt and combo! I love the red velvet booties too! I have a pair I need to wear. I collabed with them too and love the necklace you chose, I chose a circle necklace. I think it is fun to try new themes is fun. I change it up after a few years. I write about fashion 2 days and the 3rd is anything goes, beauty, inspiration, midlife.. whatever I feel like writing about.
