It’s been awhile since I did a post that included random stories from around the Internet that had no other purpose then to bring a smile to your face…
THE STORY
…I’ve been hoarding interesting, amusing and heartwarming stories in my Pocket app like a squirrel stashing acorns for Winter, so it’s about time I shared a few of them with you. On a side note, have you ever heard of Pocket? It’s both a desktop and phone app that saves the little gems you discover on the Internet for you to peruse later at your leisure. It’s like the high tech (and way less messy) version of the myriad of file folders in which I use to store articles and pictures that I tore from magazines. If you’re an information hoarder like me, I suggest you check it out.
As per usual, several of the stories that made me smile involve those of the canine persuasion…
- First on the list is this article I found about a heart meltingly sweet golden retriever named Charlie who lost his eyes to glaucoma. He now has a beautiful little seeing eye puppy named Maverick. Trust me, I immediately followed them on Instagram and you should too.
- I’m not much for cooking, but I’ve been on the lookout for gluten free recipes since I recently found out that it’s a no-go for me. I found this insanely easy and super yummy egg roll in a bowl recipe and trust me, if I can make something this good anybody can.
- If this story about an 8 year old Nigerian refugee living in a homeless shelter in New York City who recently won his age category in the New York State chess championship doesn’t give you all the feels than nothing will.
- Three guide dogs leading a visually impaired runner to finish the NYC Half Marathon? Yes, please.
- Here’s proof (as if we needed it) that age is truly irrelevant. The Washington Wizards basketball team now has a 50 and over dance squad that performs at their games. The oldest member is 76 years old…and that is completely and utterly cool in my book.
- Walmart has been killing it fashion-wise in the last year or so, and this year’s swimsuit collection is no exception. I’ve been admiring them in-store for weeks, and this InStyle roundup of some of the best made me realize I had better get crackin’. I haven’t gotten a new suit for literally years, and this Summer’s Key West vacay definitely warrants a new suit or two.
THE OUTFIT
When my lovely friend Kellyann chose Pantone’s color of the year “Living Coral” as this month’s Ageless Style Link Up theme I knew immediately that I wanted to style my mixed print coral boho dress that I received c/o Caite & Kyla. I really don’t own a whole lot of coral, at least not anything that I love, so it was the perfect time to bust out this little cutie.
It is without a doubt a Summer dress and one that I will likely reach for often this Summer. The bright coral, turquoise and yellow colors and lightweight flowy fabric practically scream warm weather. But as with all seasonal pieces, where there’s a will there’s a way. With a little bit of layering this coral boho dress was ready for a cool Spring day. I added the lightweight open weave cardigan over top for school, the denim jacket over that for outside and the over the knee boots minus tights were just enough to keep my legs protected from the cool breeze.
THE TIP
If you’d like to try wearing a color that you don’t often wear, try it incorporated into a print with other colors. If you at all apprehensive about trying something new, this is an easy way to do it without being overwhelmed.
