This week’s roundup of amusing, interesting and just perplexing things on the Internet is a mixed bag…
THE STORY
…If you’re looking for a laugh, a little bit of hope or simply a really fabulous swimsuit on the cheap then you’ve come to the right place:
- For some reason several of the stories on this Buzzfeed list of Embarrassing Stories just cracked me up. You know, that silent body shaking kind of cracking up. #4, #7 and #22 were particular favorites. I can really relate to the teacher in #22…it almost happens to me at least three times a day. Warning…if you have more delicate sensibilities, there are few f-bombs sprinkled throughout.
- I cannot resist a story that gives me hope that the future of our country isn’t completely bleak. The city of Chicago electing it’s first African-American openly gay female mayor is just such a story.
- I’ve mentioned several times over the last year that Walmart is killing it on the fashion front, and this year’s swimwear collection is insanely fabulous. There is a style and size for just about every woman, and the pieces are both pretty and unique. This InStyle roundup is just a small sampling of what’s available. I actually snagged the sixth one down, the Botanica print top and bottom.
- Oh my God, seriously, how many of you can totally relate to this list of Pre-Cellphone Problems that kids will never understand? Trying to stretch that phone cord to the nearest room or closet with a door for some privacy…my friends, the struggle was real…lol!
- This list of moments where total strangers stepped up and helped out their fellow humans is exactly how the world should be. It was tough to pick a favorite on this one, but #6 really choked me up.
- And finally, my list would not be complete without at least one puppy story. This story about a dog who swam up to an oil rig and was rescued 136 miles from shore is both incredible and heartwarming.
THE OUTFIT
It’s been awhile since I’ve worn this floral print duster. The last time was with leggings and the same sandals. It a great stand-alone piece, but it also layers well like I did with this long cardigan and the same slouchy pants that I paired it with today. I don’t wear this as often as my kimonos because it’s cut more like a shirt. I’m always all about comfort and I far prefer the ease and comfort of the looser sleeves on kimonos.
With that being said I do love the dark floral print, the lightweight fabric and the versatility this duster provides. Due to the floatiness of the fabric it can easily be paired with looser slouchy pants like these. I know, the “rule” states that you should wear something more form fitting on the bottom if the top is a looser fit and vice versa. I’ve found however, it all comes down to the material. If the more voluminous piece is bulky, for example, a chunky knit, then often the piece will look better paired with something more streamlined. But if both pieces are a lightweight rayon, cotton or a similar fabric then you’re not running the risk of appearing larger than life.
And can I just tell you how excited I was to bust out the sandals for the first time this season. This particular pair is a favorite which I wear often and also own in red and nude. The block heel makes them comfortable and the lack of embellishment makes them work dressed up or down.
THE TIP
Don’t shy away from pairing two voluminous pieces; just keep the fabric and style in mind.
