Some weeks more than others I’m really happy to see Friday roll around…
THE STORY
…and this was one of those weeks. It was only a four day week at work, but those sometimes seem to be the longest because you’re out of whack and never sure what day it actually is. It wasn’t a bad week per se, just an exhausting one.
The kids seemed to be somewhat out of sorts and I spent more time than usual putting out small fires here and there. There was some wildly inappropriate name calling, teenage girl drama, lie telling…the list goes on. Nothing out of the ordinary, just a lot of it in one week. And as I’ve mentioned before, in light of the fact I teach Life Skills (special education) my kids are with me most of the day, every day, all year for the entire time they are in middle school. Because of that, we develop a closer relationship than most teachers get the opportunity to have with their students.
Therefore, their interpersonal shenanigans are particularly exhausting for me because of the bonds we have developed; I guess maybe I take it a little more personally than I would if they were just passing through. Needless to say, I’m happier than usual that tomorrow is Saturday.
THE OUTFIT
I was a happy girl when I went to the attic and discovered that I had indeed kept this burgundy velvet blazer. Especially because a few weeks back I realized that I hadn’t kept my velvet skirt. Seriously, what was I thinking? When I’ve worn this velvet blazer in the past I typically paired it with jeans, but this time I decided to change it up and go with the black harem pants.
Usually when I put an outfit together, I start with one piece that I really want to wear and then build the outfit from there. My starter piece in this case was the black lace up back Rialto pumps. I wore them the other day with distressed skinnies and a band tee which I’ll share with you another day, but today I thought they were perfect paired with the harem pants and velvet blazer. The lace up detail on the back gives them a little extra sass that you don’t get with a plain pump. And like the gorgeous blue color block suede boots from Rialto that I wore last week , they have these cool little cushioned ridges in the ball of the foot that make them extra comfortable. Between the ridges and the solid heel they didn’t give me a single problem all day long at work.
THE TIP
In my experience, the easiest way to put together an outfit is to always start with one piece and build it from there. Honestly I always do that; even if it’s a simple casual outfit for a weekend day when I’m doing nothing at all. Looking at your closet as a whole can be overwhelming, so if you start with one piece. that helps you to narrow down your choices and makes putting together a look a much less daunting task.
